Berklee College of Music: Assistant Chair, Professional Music Department (deadline 10/16/17)

  • Berklee College of Music is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Chair of the Professional Music Department. As one of the largest majors at the College, Professional Music is an established program that offers a “design-your-own major/entrepreneurial approach” for students. Brown University: Associate/Full Professor of Music (Department Chair) (deadline 12/4/17)

  • Background and Opportunities: Brown’s Department of Music is at an important transitional moment. Following several senior retirements and some highly promising new hiring, the department is partnering with the Provost and the Dean of the Faculty to develop a strategic plan. The next department chair, who will ideally take up the position on July 1, 2018, will have the opportunity to build upon strategic planning work already underway and to shape its future.
  • The Department of Music is a key department in Brown University’s current strategic plan, Building on Distinction. Spanning scholarship, creation, and practice, Music is central for two of the plan’s integrative themes: “Cultivating Creative Expression” and “Exploring Human Experience.” Music is one of the constituent members of the recently established Brown Arts Initiative, and the department’s chair serves on the Initiative’s executive committee. Music is also the main stakeholder in a new Performing Arts Center currently in the initial stages of design and slated for completion in 2021. The next chair of Music will be centrally engaged in these exciting new developments.

Among the position responsibilities are 1) teaching core undergraduate Arts Management courses and others as needed, in-addition to overseeing student internships and independent projects; 2) directing the university’s Alexandre Hogue Gallery and its programming, including working with students to facilitate the space as a “laboratory” for Arts Management students; and 3) facilitating connections with cultural organizations and stakeholders in the region.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Arts Management/Administration or relevant field such as Art History, Museum Studies, Theater, Music, or Nonprofit Management; 3-5 years arts management experience in a professional or university setting
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience (1-5 years) at the university level
