Teaching duties may be assigned in a secondary area of expertise appropriate to the qualifications of the candidate, including courses in General Education curriculum. Student advising and committee work will be required. For purposes of reappointment, tenure, and promotion, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, scholarly and creative achievement, and service to the University and community. Faculty members are expected to contribute professionally at the state and national levels.

Possible areas of focus for this position might include (but are not limited to): architecture and design, digital arts (animation, music, dance, media imagery, theater and visual arts); the global dynamics of new media; social media, online cultures and identities; perception, cognition, and neuroscience of art; computational analysis and computational theory of art; and historical and theoretical perspectives on sciences/arts relationships.
This position is one of several new faculty appointments in the humanities made possible by support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. These interdisciplinary appointments seek to advance humanistic inquiry by applying its traditional principles to new fields of study and by examining traditional areas of research and teaching by means of new approaches.

The Communication, Culture & Technology (CCT) M.A. program at Georgetown University focuses on the ways that new technologies of communication and digital media are reshaping human experience on all levels from the local to the global, and how these technologies are redefining the practice of science, research, education, government, media, business, and culture and the arts more broadly. The CCT Program is now redefining its emphasis on technology and technology studies, including developing a new lab, which will be a hub of technology knowledge, discovery, and research, connecting CCT and Georgetown to the larger world of practice and innovation in all sectors. The new lab will provide a means for CCT to create partnerships with leading private sector information organizations developing innovations in digital media, knowledge management, and Internet applications; to remain at the forefront of research by creating relationships with initiatives in the Digital Humanities and the Information Schools; and push forward the boundaries of knowledge through external support by agencies and foundations such as NSF and Mellon.
As a major step toward accomplishing this larger mission for CCT, the program seeks to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a solid knowledge of the key technologies in the post-Internet and digital media environment, and with interdisciplinary expertise in the study of technology, including history, theory, and current methodologies. Assistant Professor of Digital Media Studies, Department of English
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Digital Media Studies at the Assistant Professor level. We are looking for a colleague with expertise in digital media theory and practice who will contribute to our research and teaching in this area, including new degree options and our digital research centre, the Critical Media Lab, where the successful candidate will have access to extensive resources for digital design (please visit http://criticalmedia.uwaterloo.ca for more information). Applicants for this position should have outstanding research potential and achievement commensurate with their experience; it will also be considered an asset to have a strong record of external funding. The successful candidate will be offered a wide range of teaching experiences, from first-year undergraduate courses through to graduate teaching and supervision of doctoral students. In addition to undergraduate programs in Literature and in Rhetoric and Professional Writing, the Department offers new undergraduate specializations in Digital Media Studies and in English Literature in a Global Context. We also offer a new MA in Experimental Digital Media (XDM), in addition to our innovative MA programs in Literary Studies and Rhetoric and Communication Design. Our unique PhD program integrates literary studies with fields of media theory and design, rhetoric, and discourse and text analysis. Since the Department promotes an integrated research culture, secondary expertise in critical theory, creative arts, computer programming, rhetoric, semiotics, composition theory, linguistics, or a field of literary study, is also welcome. The Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks outstanding applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to begin in fall 2012.
Candidates will be expected to conduct creative work and/or research in digital media, as well as to develop and teach courses in the theory and practice of digital media production. The new faculty member will teach a large introductory first-year course that emphasizes the convergence of interactive media, moving image, and audio production under a special initiative from the Chancellor. Candidates should possess broad-based skills in interactive web design and programming with HTML/CSS, high-definition video shooting and editing, sound design, and media compression for broadband delivery. Successful candidate will supervise teaching assistants in the first-year course, as well as teach additional courses in her/his specialized areas of expertise.
MFA, Ph.D, or equivalent in Communication or related field required, with a record of significant accomplishment. Previous teaching experience preferred. The Department of Religion and Culture and the interdisciplinary doctoral program ASPECT (Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought) at Virginia Tech invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Cultural Theory to begin August 10, 2012. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in cultural studies or a closely related humanities or social sciences discipline, have a strong theoretical and interdisciplinary background, and show a commitment to the missions of both the Department of Religion and Culture (http://www.rc.vt.edu/) and ASPECT (http://www.aspect.vt.edu/). Preference will be given to applicants whose main body of research is in one of the following fields: media studies, visual studies, or popular culture. Position Summary: The English Department at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Digital Rhetoric to begin August 2012. Mark Steinberg Weil Early Career Fellowship in Digital Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis. The Humanities Digital Workshop at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a three-year early-career fellowship in digital humanities, to begin July 1, 2012. We seek scholars with expertise in any of a broad range of humanities topics and methods -- quantitative history, network analysis, topic-modeling, statistical approaches to book history, lexicography, computer-assisted stylistics, text-processing, or human-computer interaction. The fellow’s research program should employ analysis of digitized texts or data to extend or contest current understandings of literary, political, social, or cultural history. Candidates must have completed their doctorates after 2008, and must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. before July 1, 2012.
The Weil fellowship was established to foster the professional development of gifted scholars and the further enrichment of the university’s vigorous research environment. The HDW fellow is expected to pursue her or his own research, but will also join the research team of one or more of the projects currently supported by the HDW; the Fellow is expected to participate in the intellectual life of the HDW as well as of other units relevant to the Fellow’s research interests. Teaching responsibilities include a course each Fall and Spring semester, as well as supervision of a small number of students. Some courses may be centered in the Fellow’s substantive discipline; others may straddle disciplines, but with a methodological focus in digital scholarship. Fellows are expected to be in residence during the entire fellowship period, apart from research-related travel. Fellows will receive a salary of $60,000 per year, plus Washington University postdoctoral benefits; and a $5,000 annual research/travel stipend.

Position Description: Applications are invited for a full-time tenure track position in Cinema and Media Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position calls for research and teaching excellence that complements and builds on existing strengths in Canada’s oldest and most comprehensive Department of Film with its dynamic range of research initiatives, including the 3D Film Innovation Consortium (3D FLIC), the Centre for Innovation in Visualization and Data-Driven Design (CIV-DDD), The Future Cinema Lab and the Augmented Reality Lab. Our well-established undergraduate and graduate programs in Production, Screenwriting and Cinema and Media Studies attract strong students from across Canada and internationally. We seek a scholar with a well-developed research program and teaching experience in at least one of the following areas: emerging forms of moving image media and cross-platform environments of media production (from mobile cinema to augmented reality and large screen projection); new forms of image making (from CGI/animation to videogames); new forms of media dissemination (including social media). A record of accomplishment that spans the academic, professional and artistic sectors, including an established or emerging profile as a screen-based practitioner, is strongly preferred. The successful candidate’s research background should allow her or him to draw upon the history of cinematic practices. Along with a solid record of scholarly publication, the successful candidate will have demonstrated skill in digital aesthetics and multi-media narrative. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and teaching new introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, as well as for actively shaping and teaching graduate offerings and conducting graduate supervision in this field of study. This position is intended to cultivate a research and curriculum overlap between the Department’s programs in Cinema and Media Studies and the Faculty of Fine Arts’ BA in Digital Media. The candidate will join the Department’s Cinema & Media Studies area, but a capacity to teach courses in the Department’s other streams, Film Production and/or Screenwriting, would be a strong asset. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Film or Media Studies, or a related area; additional academic and/or professional experience in a relevant artistic field; three years of post-secondary teaching; and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, graduate supervision, and administrative service.
