George Mason University (USA:VA) - Digital History
- Tenure track assistant professorship in Digital History, to begin Aug. 2021

- Digital historians and digital art historians pursuing research in any field of history or art history are encouraged to apply. Area of study and methodological specialty are open, but only candidates who can demonstrate that they are digital scholars will be considered. Successful candidates will work at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM) and will be expected to initiate and write grant-funded projects to support their work and the work of the Center. All of the projects at RRCHNM are open source and open access and our mission as a Center is to democratize access to historical information. Work at the Center is highly collaborative, including faculty, staff, and students in multiple projects and candidates should demonstrate a past record of working in teams and/or collaborative environments. The person hired in this position will be expected to collaborate with the other senior staff to manage the Center, represent it to the wider community, and plan its overall direction. - This position will have a 2/2 teaching load and will have broad latitude in developing an array of undergraduate and graduate courses in digital history or art history according to their pedagogical and research interests. The candidate will also teach our undergraduate general education course in digital history (HIST 390: The Digital Past) and will help sustain our required graduate coursework in the field. The incumbent will maintain an active scholarly agenda in the field of digital history, art history, or another humanities field relevant to our work at RRCHNM.

Washington University in St. Louis (USA:MO) - Cultural Analytics or Digital Literary Studies and Computational Linguistics
- Two (2) tenure track (TT) full-time (FT) assistant professorships to begin July 1, 2021.

- As part of a broad initiative in Data Analytics and Digital Technology (https://insideartsci.wustl.edu/digital-transformation-hiring-initiative), Washington University in St. Louis seeks two tenure-track faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor, one in the fields of Cultural Analytics or Digital Literary Studies and the other in Computational Linguistics (start date July 1, 2021). Teaching responsibilities will include general courses in digital humanities and quantitative methods at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to courses in their disciplinary field. We also expect the candidate to play a significant role in efforts to build a cross-disciplinary structure for digital humanities research and education at Washington University. We are especially interested in applicants with an appetite for shared inquiry.
- Cultural Analytics or Digital Literary Studies: depending upon research area and educational background, the primary appointment will be made in either English, Comparative Literature, Germanic Languages and Literatures, or Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies, with joint appointment or affiliation possible. Successful candidates will have a record of or the potential for outstanding teaching and scholarship in one of these fields. We are especially interested in applicants with expertise in computational analysis and/or text mining. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, three letters of recommendation, a 20-25-page writing sample, a teaching statement, and evidence of teaching excellence, in the form of a teaching evaluation by a faculty member or a substantive discussion of teaching in one of the letters. A reflection on your experience and vision regarding the teaching and mentoring of students from diverse backgrounds should be included in either your teaching statement or your cover letter. In your cover letter, please address your disciplinary expertise as well as your skills in data analytics or quantitative analysis and your vision of how the humanities and quantitative analysis can enrich one another. - Computational Linguistics: depending upon research area and educational background, the appointment will be made in the Program in Linguistics with joint appointment in another department. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in Ancient Greek, Latin, or other languages of the ancient Mediterranean, but we will give full consideration to candidates with other language specialties. A Ph.D. in Linguistics or other relevant field is required at the time of appointment (July 1, 2021). Duties will include teaching (four courses per year, 2 courses per semester), conducting research, writing for publication, supervising student research, and normal non-teaching departmental and university duties.
