The Department of Media Culture seeks candidates with a strong research agenda, and teaching experience in critical media studies and contemporary practices. This can include expertise on communication and technopolitics; media and BIPOC, LGBTQI+, people with disabilities; multimedia journalism, platformization, gaming, attention economy, digital art and design, streaming culture, influencer culture. The ideal candidate will teach courses in the Department’s core curriculum, such as communication theory, media analysis, research methods, representation and identity; offer new and innovative courses in one or more of the aforementioned areas. Preference will be given to candidates with professional media experience, creative work, and/or the ability to incorporate multimedia production into their classes. Ph.D. in Communication or a related field, or M.F.A. focusing on media arts practices. Candidates should have a substantive research agenda and/or creative work, record of teaching, and commitment to curriculum development.

Loyola University Chicago (IL, USA). Assistant Professor of English, Comparative Ethnic American Literature

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2025. We seek candidates with strong research and teaching profiles in early comparative ethnic American literature and culture, especially early Latino/a/e/x and/or early Asian American and Asian diasporic writing and expression.  Preferred: Scholars working in comparative or relational race and ethnic studies are especially desired.  Preferred: Specialists in all literary genres, critical approaches, and topics are encouraged to apply, particularly those in: queer, trans, feminist or sexuality studies; migration studies; labor studies; textual studies; digital humanities; critical race theory; environmental humanities, medical humanities, or the history of science; or revolutionary studies or the Age of Revolution.  Encouraged: Scholars whose work expands the definition of Pre-1900 ethnic American literature using hemispheric, oceanic, or global frameworks and comparative interdisciplinary methods are also welcomed to apply. College of the Holy Cross - Critical Race and Ethnic Studies and Media Studies (Due Oct 1, 2024)

The Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Critical Race and Media Studies to begin in August 2025. This interdisciplinary department, the newest at the College, offers a major and minor in which students organize their curricular plan along one of the following tracks: Social Change and Transformation; Race and Intersectionality; Representation and Cultural Expressions; Transnational Approaches. We welcome perspectives that generate new ways of thinking about media cultures and their relationships with law and governance, embodiment, and radical and revolutionary traditions (e.g., Black Marxism, Subaltern studies, decolonial epistemologies, or new media social justice activism). A comparative or transnational approach is also desired. This position involves teaching introductory and intermediate courses as well as upper-level electives in the instructor’s specialty. Opportunities also exist for members of the department to involve themselves in advising and mentoring of students, to teach in the first-year Montserrat program, to incorporate community-based learning, or to seek interdisciplinary team-teaching opportunities at the College. We welcome candidates whose teaching and research interests will contribute to other interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies; Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies; Asian Studies; Digital Media Studies; and/or Film Studies.

San Francisco State University, Department of Humanities and Comparative World Literature offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Video Games Studies beginning August 2025. We seek an exceptional colleague interested in the intersection of video games studies with fields such as literary, cultural, or media studies. We are particularly looking for candidates with some expertise in Japanese culture. Successful candidates should have an active research agenda and be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence, equity, and inclusion in teaching diverse student bodies.
