- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proven expertise in the field of Digital History. Ideally, we are looking for someone with specialist knowledge on the history and cultural heritage of East Central Europe as well as experience in developing digital knowledge resources and teaching programs. The successful candidate must also be willing to immerse her or himself in the content and regional focus areas of the Herder Institute. Knowledge of an East European language is an advantage. - The Department of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in association with the Office of the Chancellor seeks an innovative and creative scholar and public historian who will create and sustain a new Public History Project on campus. This position will end on June 30, 2021; this position may be extended or become renewable
- The Project Director will be responsible for linking diverse community members within and beyond the University in order to recover and acknowledge the history of exclusion on the campus, especially through the voices of those who experienced and resisted it. This project has been proposed in response to a recently completed report about the history of organizations named for the Ku Klux Klan that operated on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus in the 1910s and 1920s. - 9 month tenure track assistant professorship in the History of Physical Culture and Sport Studies, to begin Aug. 2019
- The successful candidate will teach and mentor graduate students in the doctoral program in Physical Culture and Sport Studies, teach in the department’s undergraduate major in Physical Culture and Sport, and assist with the closely affiliated master’s and undergraduate programs in Sport Management.
- Candidates should have: 1) Demonstrated knowledge of the history of physical culture and the ability to teach a variety of courses such as Historical Research Methods, The History of Physical Culture, the History of Exercise Science and Sport Medicine, Historical and Ethical Issues in Physical Culture and Sports and other courses tied to their research expertise; 2) A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or Health Education with a specialization in Sport History or other field in the Sport Humanities; or a doctoral degree with a research specialization in the history of physical culture, history of exercise, or history of sport from departments such as History, American Studies, Women and Gender Studies, African-American and Diaspora Studies, Latin-American Studies, other programs in race and ethnic studies, or other programs in the Humanities. (ABD candidates will be considered if graduation occurs before August 2019); 3) An established record of scholarly publication and presentation in the field of physical culture history, sport history, and/or sport studies.

- You'll need: A good first degree, complemented by a PhD in History or a related subject; The proven ability to produce world-class research, including a research plan which supports the activities of the department; Proof that you have led national or international research groups and networks, mentoring early career researchers and making an internationally recognized contribution to the development of research fields; A track record of contributing significantly to the development of PhD programmes and the supervision of PhD students; The proven ability to develop successful research project proposals, with the scope to secure funding or generate income; Experience of delivering high-quality teaching across lectures and in smaller study groups, with the ability to attain the rank of Principal Fellow of HEA; Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.
