- [15 Nov.] Anyone hear back on this search?
- [7 Dec] Nothing yet...[x2]
- I have an interview scheduled at the AHA in January.
- [18 Dec] Received generic rejection by email.
- I interviewed with them at the AHA and recently was told that I did not make the list of three scheduled to visit campus. Note: The in person interview process included submitting more supporting materials that included writing a two page response to the "Mission Statement" which states that faith and reason are compatible. To me, this was odd because the Friar/President of the University also reviews this statement and is apparently involved in making the final decision on hiring. This entire process was weird and in my opinion agreeing to such a statement seems to impinge upon one's academic freedom.
- faith statements are pretty common at religious universities. It's part of the process when you apply to jobs at them, but it is unusual that PC didn't make it clear up front they expected this
- Some serious struggles over diversity at Providence and this statement (at least the way it is constructed and the role it plays in the hiring process) have been debated in the media over the last few years google former Providence professor Anthony Esolen controversy.

- If Iowa runs their searches the same way as they used to, the committee will bypass first-round phone or AHA interviews and just choose 2-3 candidates to come to campus. They make this decision after having read all the writing samples, etc. I don't know if they still do it this way, but if they do, the people they invite to campus will find out fairly late (possibly post-AHA, though I don't remember the exact timing). The on-campus interviews will take place around the same time others do (late January).

- Offer made and accepted
- Inside hire selected: https://mobile.twitter.com/jeremyneely/status/972209363791294464
- Some "tells" for an inside hire: 1) Job description exactly matches a current instructor's teaching load. 2) You botch the phone interview and get invited on campus anyway. 3) The Dean skips the interview appointment because the "secretary made the appointment for the wrong day."
- For the record, I think they made the right decision, as the hire is much better qualified than I am, but running a sham search shakes my faith in humanity. Good experience, I guess. And free food!
- --Knowing some people who interviewed for this position, no, this was not the most qualified hire. The department ran a sham search through a rigged, bankrupted process.

- Deadline for applications: 1 Nov. 2017 .
- Interviews will be by invitation during the AHA annual meeting in Washington DC in January 2018
- Will applications from Associate Professors be considered?
- Is this a real or fake search? An internal candidate matches the ad. 2x
- Why did the job listing disappear from Hnet/the AHA site?
- [Dec 11] is this posting essentially dead?
- [Dec 11] Assume so; it seems like it was a fake search designed to target an internal lecturer. And the listing is nowhere to be found. Has anyone heard a peep yet?
- [Dec. 11] Interviews scheduled at AHA.
- Does this mean that somebody received an AHA interview invitation? Or that people will be contacted during the AHA for interviews that occur at the AHA? This can't be right - but the language here seems odd.
- [Dec. 12] Update: Invited to interview at AHA
- Not only is there an internal candidate, but that candidate is the partner of one of the dept's few tt professors...
- Are you saying the interviews scheduled are part of some sort of charade to hire an inside candidate?
- It wouldn't be the first time it has happened with an academic search. Not saying it is the case with this one, just sayin'...
- Offer made & accepted. [Feb. 26]
- Does anyone know if this ended up being an inside hire after all? [March 26]
- I am wondering the same thing. [March 26]
- Yes it went to the internal candidate.
