The appointee is expected to an internationally prominent scholar in his/her field of specialization. More specifically, he/she should possess (i) an excellent track record of scholarly publications in internationally leading peer-reviewed journals and with major scholarly presses, (ii) a successful grant records, (iii) broad experience in teaching and course development, and (iv) substantive administrative and institution-building experience.

The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate honors History courses, as well as be able and willing to contribute to a team-taught Core/Great Texts curriculum. Teaching Load: 4/4 (class sizes typically range between 5-15 students) and advising senior honors thesis projects.

Full-time tenure track Assisstant Professorship in history to begin in Fall 2025.
The position is open with regard to the geographic region of specialization, but we would welcome applicants who could teach courses on Latin America and the Caribbean or the Middle East/Islamic World. We especially seek applicants whose research and teaching trace the social and cultural construction of gender and the history of sexuality. In addition to their specific region and time period, the successful candidate will complement what our department’s current faculty members offer in terms of region, chronology, or methodology. Particularly desirable areas of additional interest include: public humanities, African diaspora, world history, labor history, migration history, environmental history, the history of science and medicine.
Teaching Load: In a typical semester, depending on their areas of specialization the faculty member might teach a 100-level introductory course (such as Latin American History or World History II), a 200-level course (such as Understanding Islam in Global Perspective or African Diaspora), and a 300/500 level advanced undergraduate/graduate level seminar (such as “Insurgency and Revolution in Latin America and the Caribbean” or “Cross-Cultural Encounters”). In addition to existing classes, the faculty member can develop new history courses in their areas of specialization or teach general education courses as part of the Simmons PLAN (Purpose Leadership ActioN). The faculty member is expected to advise undergraduate History majors, to supervise the work of Master's student research and theses, maintain an active research agenda, and actively to engage in service to the Simmons community.

Seeks to hire an outstanding early-career candidate in the area of pre-modern queer history (ca. 500-1800 CE). We welcome applications from scholars studying all regions, whose work complements or enhances current department strengths. Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will offer courses on the undergraduate and graduate level in queer history and other topics related to their particular specialization and will be expected to carry on a distinguished research program. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester (2:2 load).
Qualifications: Candidates should hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in history or a related field (ABD candidates should have the PhD in hand by June 30, 2025).
