Adelphi University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in 20th-century American literature, with a specialty in African American literature, the literature of the African diaspora, and Multi-ethnic American literature to begin August 2018. The teaching load is 18-credits (3/3) with opportunities for research release. Our new colleague will teach undergraduate courses including surveys and seminars. We strongly encourage applicants with a specific theoretical research agenda and who can also develop and teach new and existing courses within our "Critical Perspectives" category of upper-division electives. Further, we especially welcome a candidate with a background in teaching a diverse student population and an interest in interdisciplinary collaborations. PhD required by August 2018.

Two Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions in English.

The Beloit College Department of English invites applicants for two tenure-track positions to begin August 2018:

Primary expertise in 20th- or 21st-century ethnic American Literature.
Primary expertise in medieval and/or early modern non-dramatic British Literature.

Desirable secondary areas for these positions are film studies or digital humanities, and both positions require strong background in and commitment to teach expository writing. Both hires would teach a 5 course load annually and contribute to all college programs, such as first-year seminars.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in multiple periods of comparative ethnic U.S. literature; Specific expertise in Afro-Caribbean, Pacific Rim, and/or Indigenous literature; Focus on environmental justice, and; Knowledge of critical pedagogical and community engagement practices suited to a teacher credential program in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Duties: The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The Department of English at Central Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Transnational American Literatures, to begin in September 2018. With 16 tenure-line faculty members, over 250 undergraduates and a small cohort of graduate students, the English department offers Bachelor's Degrees in English Language & Literature, English/Language Arts Teaching, and Professional & Creative Writing (both face-to-face and online). We also offer face-to-face Master's programs in Literature and TESOL, and an entirely online MA in Professional & Creative Writing. The Department of English at Lehman College CUNY invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor, effective August 2018. Candidates must have an active record of research and scholarship, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department seeks an English Ph.D. in American and/or Hemispheric American literature, with command of both historical traditions and contemporaneous writing. It welcomes secondary proficiencies in Latino/Latina or Afro-Caribbean literatures in English; Native studies; critical theory at the intersection of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality; migration and globalization studies; and/or the interrelationship of English studies and digital humanities.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiethnic American and/or Hemispheric American literature, the successful candidate will be expected to teach core English Department courses in American and British literature, as well as general education and composition courses. The candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarship via conference presentations, journal articles, and book publication, and to provide service to the department, college, university, and community through advising, committee membership, and administrative assignments normally associated with a full-time tenure-track academic appointment. Evening teaching may be required.

The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York, and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students, preparing them for employment, the professions, and further study. The teaching load is 21 hours (6-7 courses) per year. Service to the college, university, and community is part of the Lehman mission, as is a clear commitment to student engagement, including advisement.

Although the college is strongly teaching-focused, faculty at Lehman are fully engaged in research, scholarship and creative works. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty during the first five years for scholarly development, and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development, travel awards, and research with students. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in English (or a closely related academic field) in hand is required by commencement of the appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Evidence of commitment to public service is a plus.

Job Description: The University of Central Florida (UCF) is hiring a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor of global modernisms with particular focus on American literature in transnational contexts. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of a productive research agenda and a strong commitment to teaching both face-to-face and online classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as the ability to teach a broad range of courses. The anticipated start date is August 2018 and will entail a 3/2 teaching load.

A strong commitment to undergraduate education in a residential college environment is essential.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses on the traditions, histories, and theories of Asian Diasporic literatures. The candidate may also teach literary foundations and courses fulfilling a college-wide literature requirement, which could include a first-year seminar. Graduate literature courses for MFA creative writing and MA publishing students may be part of the teaching duties. Experience teaching online classes or a willingness to teach literature in an online MFA program is desirable. In addition to teaching five courses a year, all faculty members advise and mentor students and participate in the college’s system of shared governance.

Specifically, we seek applications from candidates engaged in scholarship on Afro-Hispanic/Latinx studies whose research and teaching address the intersection of issues of race, culture, language, and ethnicity that are specific to the Latinx and/or Latin American experience. The successful candidate will teach four courses per year in their area of specialization at the undergraduate and Master’s level, in addition to providing support to core courses in Latin American Studies and Spanish language. Applicants should have a PhD or anticipate PhD completion by August 2018 in relevant fields such as literature, cultural studies, or sociolinguistics.

Applicants should be effective teachers and demonstrate both an established record and ongoing potential for excellence in scholarship. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate specific interest in the role language plays in formations of race and ethnicity, both with regard to power relations generated between and across cultures in contexts of colonization and migration, and to the emergence of shared cultural and linguistic experiences.

The University of California, Riverside seeks applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level for the Tomás Rivera Endowed Chair in Creative Writing and English with an emphasis on Chicano/Latino literature. The successful candidate shall hold the Tomás Rivera Endowed Chair, established in memory of the writer, poet, and academic leader who served as Chancellor of the University of California, Riverside. Applicants must present an outstanding record of creative activity and research in Chicana/o/x or Latina/o/x literature, one evidenced by national and international publications, presentations, and awards. Preference will be given to applicants with an active research agenda who have published with distinction in multiple genres. The successful candidate will be a senior joint appointment in the Department of Creative Writing with a secondary appointment in the Department of English, with teaching and service as assigned. The position will be effective July 1, 2018.

The initial appointment as Endowed Chair will be for five years, with the possibility of renewal. The Endowed Chair holder will receive funding from endowed sources to support research and conference development, as well as teaching activity. The Endowed Chair holder will also teach courses in fiction, poetry, and/or nonfiction, as well as courses in Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x literature. The UMass Lowell English Department is a dynamic, growing program with approximately 400 undergraduate majors across five concentrations. The University of Nevada, Reno announces an entry-level tenure-track position in twentieth and twenty-first century U.S. Latinx and/or Chicanx literatures to begin fall semester of 2018. The position will be a joint appointment in the English Department and the Gender, Race, and Identity Program. Applicants possessing or expecting PhDs in English, Latinx or Chicanx Studies or related fields no later than July 1 2018, are invited to apply. Secondary areas of specialization might include cultural studies, critical race theory, border theories and literatures, indigenous studies and literatures, feminist theory, queer theory, globalization and citizenship, migration, environmental humanities, visual studies, and film studies.

The teaching load will be shared equally between English and GRI and will include both undergraduate and graduate courses. Faculty who teach and mentor graduate students and engage in scholarly research typically have a 2/2 load.

The GRI program offers a major in Women’s Studies, as well as minors in Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, Religious Studies, and Holocaust, Genocide, and Peace Studies, and a graduate certificate in Gender, Race and Identity Studies. We are actively developing new curriculum, with emphases in Latinx Studies and Indigenous Studies. The English department supports interdisciplinary work and offers undergraduate degrees in literature, writing, and linguistics, as well as MA, MFA, and PhD degrees.

The University of Oregon’s English Department, in collaboration with the Ethnic Studies Department, invites applications for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Ethnic American Literatures and Cultural Productions during the 2018-20 academic years.

Applicants should have a demonstrated pedagogical and scholarly investment in the study of race and ethnicity and should hold a PhD in English, Folklore, Media Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Cinema Studies, or a related field by June 1, 2018. Applicants should not currently hold a tenure track position and should have received their PhD no earlier than January 1, 2014. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations and/or work in fields of study historically underrepresented in the academy and who will enhance the English Department's existing strengths in the study of African American, Latina/o, Asian American, and Native American and Indigenous Literatures and Cultural Productions. In addition to specialists in any of these fields, we also welcome comparative, interdisciplinary, queer, and intersectional research.

The fellow will be in residence at the University of Oregon’s English Department during academic years 2018-20. Fellows will teach 3 courses during that 2-year period. These courses will be developed and scheduled in consultation with the Associate Head of English and the Head of Ethnic Studies and will be cross-listed in Ethnic Studies. The fellow will make a research presentation to the English Department, Ethnic Studies Department, and other interested scholars. Further contributions may include offering a workshop for graduate students in the fellow's field of specialization or participation in student/faculty reading groups during their appointment. The fellow will offer mentorship to graduate students in English and, as a graduate program develops, Ethnic Studies. The fellow will work closely with a designated mentor or mentors who will be a senior faculty member in English or Ethnic Studies. The fellows will be furnished a dedicated campus office and will earn a salary of $45,000 a year plus benefits, $1,000 a year in research funds, $750 a year for conference travel, and up to $2,500 for a computer for use during the fellowship period. A budget for moving expenses may also be included in the fellowship package.
