    • Co-directing the Marching Band, teaching field and parade basics, and teaching the 2018 half-time show.

  • Winthrop University announces a national search for a faculty position in Music (Studio Percussion). This is a 9-month, full-time, multi-year appointment in the Department of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications.
  • This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to be available evenings and some weekends as rehearsals and performances require. 
  • Responsibilities:
    • Teach courses in all percussion areas, totaling approximately 12 credit hours per semester.
    • Direct and oversee all aspects of a comprehensive percussion program. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing student percussion (including Western and non-Western) and jazz ensembles.
    • Participate in an active schedule of on- and off-campus performances, master classes, etc.
    • Effectively advise and mentor students.
    • Produce creative and scholarly activity appropriate to the field.
    • Assist with curriculum development, accreditation, assessment, and program planning
    • Engage in professional stewardship, including student recruitment, to the department, college, university, discipline, and community, as appropriate.
    • Actively participate in local, state, regional, and national professional organizations providing service to these organizations and to the community.
    • Assume other responsibilities according to departmental needs and candidate's qualifications.
  • Required qualifications:
    • Doctorate in percussion performance, ABD candidates may be considered.
    • Exceptional skills as a performer and teacher.
    • At least three years of exemplary collegiate teaching experience in all aspects of percussion in a comprehensive and multi-faceted university setting.
    • Performance experience in a wide range of percussion settings, including, but not limited to, orchestral, band, jazz, and non-Western.
    • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills required.
    • Evidence of proven succes working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Desirable qualifications:
    • Experience in working with diverse student populations.
    • Experience creating and teaching online courses.
    • An interest in interdisciplinary approaches to scholarly/creative/instructional activities.
