PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE EDITING THE WIKI
Always attempt to start from the latest version of the wiki. If you see any notifications (located in the upper right hand corner), make sure that you are editing the correct page.
WHEN ADDING UPDATES OR MAKING CHANGES PLEASE DO NOT DELETE PRIOR TEXT. Simply add an update or bullet.
To edit a specific school, click the edit button next to the name of the school.
Also, I am copying the guidelines from the Humanities and Social Sciences Postdocs 2011-12 . I think we can all agree that we should strive to keep this page as easy to read as possible to maximize its usefulness.
1. Please place new positions in alphabetical order. Note that "University of X" should be alphabetized by U as first sort, and X as second sort within the U listings.
2. Please mark the title of the position using the H3 header.
3. Please include the deadline and a web link to the ad/website; PLEASE follow the format of other entries.
4. For logging comments or updates, please begin your entry with a bullet point. Each entry should have a separate line.
5. For substantive comments or updates about status, interaction, etc., please include the date at the beginning of your entry so that users can scan the info quickly for new entries.
6. Please do not post names in "Accepted Offers" until an offer has actually been accepted. Do not post a name if an offer has merely been extended, as this is not fair to the candidate's students, or to the candidate him/herself, who may need to negotiate with his/her current institution, etc. Ideally names will only be posted on the wiki by the candidate him/herself, after accepting an offer, or by a third party with some corroborating evidence (university press release, link to successful candidate's website with announcement, etc), but I know that's not always possible since people hear things through social media or word of mouth. If you want to post a name of a pianist that you know has accepted an offer, please include something about the source of the information (not just "gossip" or "the grapevine").

- 3/17 Any news?
- 5/31 After a long list of interviews, they hired Henry Kramer.
- 6/1 How many interviewed? What happened? Sounds like there is more to the story.
- 6/1 It was at least 6 on-campus interivews, but I don't know the exact number (am not in Columbus, but know piano students there). Was a mix of big name people and relative unknowns. The internal candidate was no longer employed at CSU by the start of the spring 2018 semester...
- 6/5 This page shouldn't turn into a gossip site...seriously, terms like "big name people" and "relative unknowns" - what is the point about turning this page into gossip? As far as I know, we just need brief, relevant, and reliable information. I think that the claim that the internal candidate was no longer employed in Spring 2018 is highly unlikely, as I know that he was interviewed as one of the candidates. In any case, that type of information does not belong on this site in relation to a specific job posting.
- 6/5 The internal candidate resigned on short notice before the finalists were on campus. I know this as fact. Either the committee was not happy with the initial three finalists leading to the augmented size of the finalist list, or they were intentionally using a larger applicant pool from the outset to teach their students over the course of the semester given that the internal candidate abruptly up and left. The number of hours the finalists had to spend teaching during the three day interview were significant and the search lasted the majority of the spring semester. As to comments about gossip, previous iterations of this page mentioned the importance of not mentioning names of candidates who have gotten jobs before they were officially announced. That is definitely gossip and seems like a boundary to respect. However, I see this other discussion as something completely different. This deals with the workings of a search (functional or otherwise) without revealing names of finalists, and the only mention of the selected candidate was made after that info was publicly available. This additional information is what makes the webpage valuable, IMO. Otherwise, all this website is is a combination on CMS, Higheredjobs.com, and Chronicle.
- This is the first time I heard about the internal candidate resigned before the Spring semester. As that might be due to a personal or professional issue, it is certainly an internal matter, I think that should be respected as a boundary too. We need to be careful about what we imply, as the internal candidate has a reputation too, as a very well-respected pianist and teacher. IMO, I don't like these kind of eyebrow raising comments being on this page.
- 6/6 The fact that the internal resigned before the spring semester was public knowledge. The CSU School of Music website did not/show list that person as of the start of the spring semester.
- 6/6 Nothing like this is "public" knowledge, it is always something that is handled internally at any University. These types of comments do not have any form of verification, and should be left out. The internal candidate was still listed on the website, and as far as I know they were still teaching there......My view is that the main benefit of this site was for updates on the time frame of a search, e.g. phone interview, on-campus interviews, etc. This site is losing its focus if it extends too far into gossip that is removed from the point of the conversation - the search and the position.....
- 6/8 You nerds need to chill out. This search is long over and people are free to talk about the post-mortem in any way they please. Adding extra info gives insight as to how these things work for those who are applying to job after job. As for the internal, I suspect that a few words on an obscure wiki will damage his career prospects less than going to a different VAP job every year will.
- "You nerds need to chill out" - that made me laugh! But seriously, I agree that this forum has descended into a gossip site, and there is no consensus on what constitutes helpful info. The site is supposed to be helpful to job-seekers, not just a place for people to vent with useless info. There is always so much BS about a search being a fix, about some scandal, leaking the names of finalists or successful candidates, or various useless info that people feel compelled to post, without any way to verify their statements.

- 12/4 Haven't received official word that this search is completed, but it appears to be as this was very recently posted: https://conservatory.umkc.edu/release.cfm?cont=1C2EE311
- 12/4 (2) He is the internal candidate for the position, and will mostly likely get the permanent position.
- 12/4 (3) If it were listed as Assistant, probably, but you never know with open rank advertisements - coming in with tenure/matched salary to a conservatory in a major metro is enough to lure a big name teacher/player away from elsewhere (and some of the people who I have heard applied for this easily fit into both categories, and then some).
- 12/7 UMKC did have a job posting last year for an "Assistant Teaching Professor of Piano," so the above link (which was posted July 19, by the way) is announcing the person hired for that job (non-tenure-track). The above search for an open rank tenure-track search for Fall 2018 is presumably still in progress.
- 1/29 Finalists scheduled
- Thomas Rosenkranz was offered the position.
- According to gossip, he accepted it. Get your BGSU applications ready, kids!
- Can we please not operate this page based on gossip? Candidates should be able to make decisions without others breathing down their neck. And candidates have current students who don't deserve confusion about whether their teacher is going to be around next year or not. (and assuming you'll Google my IP and see that I'm near BGSU: I am not a student of Dr. Rosenkranz, nor am I him.)
- Agreed, this is not the aim of this page, and it creates problems for the candidate, students and current school. It is also not helpful if the information is leaking - the offer should be more confidential.
- 3/12 (from the moderator): I was out of town when this was all posted, so sorry this is coming a bit late. Please do not post names until an offer has been accepted. (Since it seems the above offer has now been accepted, I'm not going to delete the name at this point.) Ideally names will only be posted on the wik by the candidate him/herself who has accepted an offer, or they can be posted with some corroborating evidence (university press release, link to successful candidate's website with announcement, etc), but I know that's not always possible since people hear things through social media or word of mouth. If you want to post a name that accepted an offer, please include something about the source of the information (not just "gossip"). I will also add this to the instructions at the top of the page.

General Discussion[]
- Next year, could we have a ticker counting applicants under each job? (or would that be pointless...) It’d be a relief to know some of us are on the same boat.
- Dear all, I'm new here, can anyone tell me what demographics is for? Thanks in advance.
- Just asking your current status, as it helps us see what the job market is like each year.
- So I'll add 1 to the degree I hold and 1 to my position (if i have one)? do I choose one position or all that apply? (thanks again)
- Whatever applies to you! :) I saw a "concerned grandmother" on another job's demographics list 😄
