Brown University - Women's and Gender Studies / American Studies - OFFER MADE

Brown University's Department of American Studies seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Women’s and Gender Studies. Applicants can come from a range of disciplinary homes but should also have experience with the varieties of interdisciplinary scholarship prominent in contemporary American Studies. We seek candidates who focus on women from an anthropological, cultural, historical, and/or socio-political perspective, though we would be particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship takes up issues of work or labor and sexuality and who are open to transnational approaches. Faculty in the Department of American Studies work closely with students in ethnic studies and public humanities, and the best candidates should expect to do the same. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will demonstrate research promise and accomplishments appropriate to rank, and be prepared to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both MA and Ph.D. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand or firmly expected by July 2014 and must show promise of significant scholarship and teaching ability.

Main responsibilities of this position are to develop and teach introductory and core Women and Gender Studies courses. Department faculty also have opportunities to develop courses in their areas of specialization. COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS - The College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks applications for a full-time (academic year), tenure-track assistant professor in gender, race, culture, science, and technology (GRCST) to begin September 15, 2014. Candidates must demonstrate the ability/potential to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to the curricular and scholarly development of the interdisciplinary area of GRCST. Although applications are sought from any traditional liberal arts discipline (arts, communications, humanities, social sciences) or interdisciplinary area, we are particularly interested in applicants with backgrounds in or connections to anthropology, ethnic studies, geography, philosophy, sociology, or women's and gender studies. The Department of Women's and Gender Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position: Interdisciplinary Research Methods and Critical Race/Ethnic Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2014. The EMU Women's and Gender Studies Department was founded as a program in 1975, offered Michigan's first Minor in Women's Studies, and became a department in 2009. The department currently offers an undergraduate major and minor in Women's and Gender Studies, a Queer Studies minor, an MA in Women's and Gender Studies, and a graduate certificate in Sexualities or Globalization. The department is interdisciplinary, with its own dedicated faculty and department members from EMU's five colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health & Human Services, and Technology, and the University Library. The EMU student body was the highest rated in Michigan for ethnic diversity by U.S. News and World Report's 2011 Best Colleges Edition, and was rated as one of the most LGBT friendly universities in the nation by the Campus Pride Climate Index. Harvard University - Gender and Culture - CAMPUS VISITS SCHEDULED

• In response to the previous two posts: I did reach the contact person in HR and was told that because this isn't classified as a faculty position they are expecting people to upload their own letters. She added that if there was any difficulty with the uploads the letters could be emailed to her and she would upload them to the file by hand. Consequently, I asked my references (who are writing for me for other positions too, and for obvious reasons want to keep those letters confidential) to email their letters to her. I also noticed that the posting asks for no information about research, which makes me worry that it's a sort of cross between classified staff (who often do academic advising at large public schools) and a lecturer, which could be career suicide - or might not be. But that's speculation based on researching the department and the institution, then reading between the lines of the ad.

Two positions are being offered this year in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS), with a start date of fall 2014. Two positions to be based elsewhere in the university will be advertised next year, with a start date of fall 2015. This cluster hire is one element of the University of Arizona's unprecedented investment in the field of transgender studies. Other elements include support for a new peer-reviewed journal, TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, which will be published by Duke University Press starting in 2014, with the editorial office housed at the University of Arizona's Institute for LGBT Studies; a new interdisciplinary Center for Critical Studies of the Body; and an anticipated graduate degree program in transgender studies.

Transgender studies concerns itself with the variability and contingency of gender, sexuality, identity, and embodiment across time, space, languages, and cultures. It pays particular attention to the socio-political, legal, and economic consequences of noncompliance with gender norms; to the histories and social organization of minoritized transgender lives and communities; to forms of cultural production that represent or express gender variance; to the medicalization of identity and the depathologization of bodily difference; and to the emergence of novel forms of embodied subjectivity within contemporary techno-cultural environments. • In 2011, I had a campus interview with them. The most awful experience I can remember. Maybe it was my lack of experience in the job market but let me suggest that if you have other options, run... run... run (this is biased, of course, as I type this with finally two TT job offers from Research Universities on my desk; I've been a postdoc and VAP at the top public U for 3 years). The Chair at the time of my visit was fine but I couldn't get any meaningful intellectual conversation with anyone other than an affiliated faculty doing work on postcolonial studies in the English Department. University of Toronto - Lecturer, Queer Writing / American Literature - OFFER ACCEPTED 

University College and the Department of English in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a teaching-stream position in Queer Writing and Culture/American Literature at the rank of Lecturer. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2014, by which time the successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. He or she will be appointed both to University College (0.60) in support of the teaching mission of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies and to the Department of English (0.40).

Lecturer appointments are normally annual but may be up to three years. If a Lecturer appointment continues into the fifth year, performance must be reviewed and a recommendation made about promotion to Senior Lecturer. Senior Lecturers have continuing appointments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle seeks an outstanding educator for the position of Lecturer, beginning in the Fall Quarter, 2014. The primary responsibility of the Lecturer will be to teach the large introductory course (150-250 students) in Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies. Preference will be given to applicants with MA or PhD degrees in women’s, and/or gender studies. Demonstrated commitment to feminist pedagogy and dedication to undergraduate education is expected. In addition to the introductory course and a course in Feminist Theory, the Lecturer will teach courses in their field of specialization. We are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in feminist Health, Law, or Environment. Within each of these fields, specific foci could include attention to inequities of race/ethnicity, citizenship status, class, LBGTQ sexualities, disability and global disparities from an activist or policy perspective. The Lecturer will play a critical role in enhancing the overall undergraduate education mission of the department and in charting a significant new direction of engagement with students, especially those who are unfamiliar with the discipline.

This position is a 3-year, full-time appointment with the possibility of re-appointment. The Lecturer will be expected to teach two courses in each of three academic quarters.
