- Link to apply: http://www.jobs.ilstu.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=64650
- Anyone apply for this job? Did you upload three letters of recommendation separately or just a reference list? There seems to be conflicting information on the posting and my efforts to contact the person listed have been fruitless.
- This job is listed as "administrative professional" not a faculty position. Does anyone have more information on that?
- In response to the previous two posts: I did reach the contact person in HR and was told that because this isn't classified as a faculty position they are expecting people to upload their own letters. She added that if there was any difficulty with the uploads the letters could be emailed to her and she would upload them to the file by hand. Consequently, I asked my references (who are writing for me for other positions too, and for obvious reasons want to keep those letters confidential) to email their letters to her. I also noticed that the posting asks for no information about research, which makes me worry that it's a sort of cross between classified staff (who often do academic advising at large public schools) and a lecturer, which could be career suicide - or might not be. But that's speculation based on researching the department and the institution, then reading between the lines of the ad.
- Has anyone heard anything? (Posted 1/21/14)
- Nothing here, anyone else?
- Skype interview request (1/30) X2

University of Arizona - Asst. Professor, Transgender Studies (2 Positions) - OFFER MADE[]
The University of Arizona is pleased to announce a cluster hire of 4 tenure-track faculty positions in transgender studies over the next two years. Two positions are being offered this year in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS), with a start date of fall 2014. Two positions to be based elsewhere in the university will be advertised next year, with a start date of fall 2015. This cluster hire is one element of the University of Arizona's unprecedented investment in the field of transgender studies. Transgender studies concerns itself with the variability and contingency of gender, sexuality, identity, and embodiment across time, space, languages, and cultures. It pays particular attention to the socio-political, legal, and economic consequences of noncompliance with gender norms; to the histories and social organization of minoritized transgender lives and communities; to forms of cultural production that represent or express gender variance; to the medicalization of identity and the depathologization of bodily difference; and to the emergence of novel forms of embodied subjectivity within contemporary techno-cultural environments. Because we seek to hire the most innovative scholars in this rapidly evolving field, we are open to considering any area of specialization, research agenda, and inter/disciplinary training compatible with faculty service in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
We invite applications for two assistant professor positions, one of which will be based in the Department of Gender and Women's Studies, and the other in another suitable department within SBS (see http://sbs.arizona.edu). In addition to possessing requisite expertise in transgender studies, applicants must be qualified to teach core courses in their home departments, and ideally will fulfill strategic priorities set by SBS in the following areas, broadly defined: health, the environment, technology, and global impact/regional roots.

Applicants must have either a Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, or Sexuality Studies, or a terminal degree in a related field, with a demonstrated commitment to the interdisciplinary study of women, gender, and/or sexuality. Specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates whose research complements and extends the strengths of our Program, including: transnational human rights, race and social justice, feminist theory, queer studies, and ecofeminism. Prospective candidates should have a strong research record. Ph.D. is required at the time of the appointment, and teaching experience in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is preferred.
With a deep commitment to diversity, interdisciplinarity, public service and engagement with the world, the WGS Program seeks candidates whose research, teaching, and service have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
Ability to teach core courses in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (introduction, feminist theory, senior seminar, and other required courses for our major) is required, together with the ability to create an inclusive classroom environment for an increasingly diverse student body.
Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching as well as research, peer-reviewed publications, and service to the Program, College and University.
Responsibilities/expectations will include: Teaching 9 courses over 4 semesters (over two years). Student advising and mentoring. Coordinating the WGS honors program and overseeing student research. Academic leadership and service, including participation in Program governance. In addition to contributing to the development of this growing program as it moves toward departmental status, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues and, if needed, with partners outside the university.
- Review begins immediately. The deadline for application is December 2, 2013. Applicants should apply online at https://wakejobs.silkroad.com.
- Online application system is a bit confusing because the department asks for all materials uploaded as a single pdf, but the system has two stages/screens for uploading documents; I uploaded the complete pdf on the first screen asking for materials, and typed "refer to pdf" on the "Resume/CV" (second) upload screen. (x2)
- I had the same question. I ended up uploading one PDF on the first screen and a writing sample on the second since I was not able to merge them together.
- If "Review begins immediately" has anyone had contact since its posting a month or so ago? Nope (12/24)
- Request for WebEx interview (01/07)
- I'll bite - what is a WebEx interview? Secondly, how many longlisted candidates are on the Web Ex interview list? (01/08)
- WebEx is the proprietary name of an online video teleconferencing tool. No idea how many are on the long list; the email did not mention that.
- Any news about campus visits?
- Campus visits scheduled (1/22) x3
- Received nice rejection via email (1/29) x3 (seriously, nicest email i've received in this cycle)
- (2/19) I've just returned from an on-campus interview at Wake Forest for a different position and heard a WGS candidate was there the same day. Just wanted to mention that my visit was lovely and I met some of the WGS faculty, too, as I research/teach in gender/sexuality from the perspective of my discipline. Best of luck to the candidates for this position.
- Thanks--and best of luck to you as well, 2/19! (02/20)
- How many completed campus visits on this one so far? Wondering about the timeline... x1
- There was a delay because one of the campus visits had to be rescheduled due to weather. The job has now been offered and accepted. Best wishes to all. (3/5)
- Congratulations to the successful candidate!
- Thank you!

Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Women's and Gender Studies to begin in Fall 2014. We seek candidates with expertise in the intersection of feminist pedagogy and distance education AND expertise in another aspect of Women's and Gender Studies with a historical focus that would contribute to the needs of the program: e.g., transnational/post-colonial feminisms OR women and science AND/OR history of gender; and a commitment to developing our growing program. Applicants should be prepared to teach introductory women's and gender studies courses, and other undergraduate courses consistent with their expertise, both in person and on-line. A Ph.D. in Women's and/or Gender Studies with proof of competency in historical methodologies, or a Ph.D. in History with a record of contributions in Women's and/or Gender Studies, is required by August 15, 2014.
Applicants must have a record of successful teaching and demonstrate scholarly promise. - Has anyone heard anything on this position? (1/13/14)
- No word here (1/21/14)
- Still nothing...I'm starting to wonder if they're moving forward with this search or not (2/14/14)
- Yes, I've been wondering this as well. (2/24/14)
- In 2011, I had a campus interview with them. The most awful experience I can remember. Maybe it was my lack of experience in the job market but let me suggest that if you have other options, run... run... run (this is biased, of course, as I type this with finally two TT job offers from Research Universities on my desk; I've been a postdoc and VAP at the top public U for 3 years). The Chair at the time of my visit was fine but I couldn't get any meaningful intellectual conversation with anyone other than an affiliated faculty doing work on postcolonial studies in the English Department. Good luck! If you need to know where they are with the process, just send them an email. The Chair was great at answering my questions over email back then.
- Has anyone reached out to them? (Thanks for the input above! Super helpful!) 03/19/14
- I bit the bullet and contacted someone over there, who very kindly told me that "the position was filled with a candidate within the state system in accordance with our collective bargaining agreement" and that the search committee was not allowed to communicate with applicants until the process was complete. Kind of a bummer, but congrats to the lucky candidate! (3/21)

- FYI - Two things: 1) the statement of teaching and research are actually statementS of teaching and research interests, so basically two separate documents. 2) they want three non-confidential letters, which means the applicant has to upload the letters. I am getting increasingly frustrated with job ads not entirely lining up with what the online system requires. This is seriously like the 6th time I have seen this, this job cycle.
- Because they are using Interfolio, the "non-confidential" letters is a non-issue.
