Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University is hiring a postdoc to tenure stream position. For this year’s inaugural Distinguished Teacher-Scholar (T-S) Fellow cohort, we seek candidates with training in the social sciences. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research and teaching experiences and interests are in the social study of science and/or medicine focusing on innovative and interdisciplinary topics related to marginalized or underrepresented communities. These might include but are not limited to decolonizing science; science and medicine in the Global South; environmental justice; queer feminist science and technology studies; transnational circuits of scientific authority and power; inequalities in health or medicine; inequalities in science, knowledge, and/or technology; reproductive justice; psycho-pathologizing of marginalized communities; or socially uneven consequences of scientific misinformation, climate change, or emergent technologies.  The link for the posting can be found here:

Defiance College (Ohio)

Assistant Professor of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Defiance College invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar with areas of expertise in broadly identified areas of identity including but not limited to class, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, and abilities. The faculty member will teach three courses per semester; including two current offerings of cultural diversity and world issues. Other courses in the scholar’s area of interest will be offered. The faculty member will coordinate efforts led by the President’s Office and work closely with the Chief Diversity Officer for a one course release each term for programming.

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. specializing in a field of study focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion with the field open for consideration with particular interests in sociology, social work, history, or political science. ABD’s will not be considered unless the degree is completed by August 2022.

Smith College (Northampton, MA, USA)

The African Studies Program at Smith College invites applications for a two-year, benefits eligible postdoctoral fellowship in African Studies, with a specialty in the study of gender and sexuality in Africa.  The position will begin July 1, 2022. The disciplinary and geographic field is open, but, in both research and teaching, candidates should exhibit a clear commitment to the interdisciplinary study of gender and sexuality in Africa. The teaching responsibilities for this position are 1-1, including a first-year seminar and an advanced-level colloquium in the candidate’s field of specialization. Berea College (Berea, KY) Tenure-track Position in Women’s and Gender Studies

Berea College, home of the new bell hooks center, invites applicants for an Assistant Professor in Women’s and Gender Studies to begin in August 2022. Applicants must have a PhD in hand, preferably in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or a complementary interdisciplinary field. The candidate will teach six classes each year, including the department’s introductory survey course—Decolonizing Feminism—as well as a queer and trans studies course, and a feminist and queer dis/ability studies course. The candidate is also expected to teach two classes each year in the General Education program.

Teaching and research expertise in the following areas are preferred: women-of-color feminism(s), anti-racist and anti-colonial feminism(s), sexuality studies, and disability studies. We especially welcome training and expertise in Native approaches to feminism, including Indigenous re/visions of (white) feminism’s institutionalization of queer and trans studies; as well as expertise in the intersection of Indigeneity and dis/ability, broadly construed.

CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. --Letter requests were sent by email. The "incomplete" on interfolio is apparently a system glitch that cannot be resolved until the end of the holiday weekend.

12/6 - First year on the market, can someone explain wtf these committees are doing with apps submitted two+ months ago?

--12/6- Long answer incoming. This is my second year on the market. There are 1000+ reasons that it takes a while to get back to applicants. Here are some guesses. (1) There are a ton of applications. Getting through 400+ applications can take quite some time. (2) Depending on whenever the deadline was, holiday breaks will cause delays. (3) Scheduling meetings to decide on candidates is rough. You have to get 3+ faculty member together at the same time.

In my experience, most interview requests come within 3-5 weeks after submission. If you haven't heard past 70+ days after submission, it is unlikely that you were selected for the long list. The longest time it took for a college to invite me to an interview was exactly 69 days, and that was because part of the search happened over the summer. Hope this helps.

--The department received ~450 completed applications at the deadline and, I believe, extended the deadline to allow for those whose applications were only partially complete to finalize them. I don't know the breakdown by rank. The search committee is still vetting all the applications and has not finalized short lists.
