The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in fall 2023.

We seek a colleague in the field of Christian Ethics who specializes in the study of gender, sexuality, and/or family ethics. Additional research interest in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: racial justice, Christian bioethics, or incarceration ethics.

We welcome applications from individuals whose research and teaching enhances our focus on the Augustinian tradition of faith engaging culture. In addition, candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach in a Catholic Christian theological context and to contribute to the formation of individuals for lay ministries. We especially encourage applications from scholars underrepresented in the field.

Responsibilities include teaching the Theology and Religious Studies course in the College core curriculum (Faith, Reason, and Culture; Global Religious Experience; or Catholic Studies); teaching elective courses in the undergraduate curriculum; offering a range of master’s and doctoral level courses on a regular basis; mentoring students beyond the classroom; and performing service to the Department, College, and the University.

A complete application includes a letter of interest, a current resume, a writing sample, three letters of reference, transcripts (unofficial copies), and three statements: on teaching philosophy; on research methods and interests; and on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Letters of reference must be submitted directly and confidentially by the reviewers. Applications must include the contact information for three references who will receive a secure email link to upload confidential letters of recommendation when the application is submitted. If chosen as a finalist, a statement of contribution to Villanova’s mission must be provided at the time of the on-campus interview.

Preliminary interviews will be conducted via video conferencing. The finalist must provide official transcripts at the time of appointment. To receive consideration, complete applications, including letters of recommendation, must be received by September 4, 2022.

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in fall 2023.

We are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in the Gospels. The successful candidate will also have competence in extracanonical early Christian literature and engage with the reception of the Bible in later Christian history and broader intellectual culture.

We welcome applications from individuals whose research and teaching enhances our focus on the Augustinian tradition of faith engaging culture and who bring biblical historical questions in conversation with contemporary cultural issues. In addition, candidates must demonstrate an ability to teach in a Catholic Christian theological context and to contribute to the formation of women and men for lay ministries.

Candidates must hold a doctorate by the start of the appointment and must demonstrate the potential for excellence in research, teaching, and student mentorship. All applicants must have training in the study of early Christian texts in their original languages, grounding in both the historical study of the Bible and contemporary hermeneutical approaches (e.g., postcolonial, womanist, feminist, mujerista, non-Western), and familiarity with the broader ancient Mediterranean world (including the literature of the Old Testament / Hebrew Bible).

Simon Fraser University, The J. S. Woodsworth Chair in Humanities, due August 31, 2022

More info on the position here: http://www.sfu.ca/humanities/employment.html

The J. S. Woodsworth Chair in Humanities in the Department of Global Humanities at Simon Fraser University (SFU) was established to honour the legacy and spirit of James Shaver Woodsworth, a founder of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in 1932, forerunner of today’s New Democratic Party. The Woodsworth legacy is tied not to specific projects or themes, but rather to moral courage, social sympathies, passion for truth, and intellectual pioneering in the pursuit of social progress, education, and empowerment. This academic appointment will involve teaching, research and, particularly, community engagement in close collaboration with the Institute for the Humanities.  In this capacity, the Chair-holder will: a) be expected to include a community development dimension within the range of their activities; b) play an active role in public programming; and c) support activities that contribute to the quality of the educational environment at SFU.

The Department of Global Humanities is an interdisciplinary unit that includes specialists in Classics, Early Christianity, Byzantine and Renaissance Studies, East-Asian Religions, Chinese and European literature, and Critical Theory.  The Department is increasingly interested in non-Western traditions of thought and culture, including Indigenous traditions.
