- "Recently"? Hasn't this job been posted for the past few years?
- It doesn't seem to have been posted last year, and the person I'm thinking of left at the end of 2008-09. The "early to mid-career" phrase suggests they are looking for a replacement who is at the same career stage as the person who departed.
- They've lost two in the last five years and currently have no senior faculty in the eighteenth century. Looks like they want someone with tenure but not close to retirement. Trying to read anything more from the wording of the ad is pretty pointless.

The department seeks candidates who have a commitment to teaching British literature from a dynamic, politically and culturally informed perspective rather than from the strict confinement of periodization. A demonstrated interest in the study of empire and/or the visual culture of the period is desirable. Teaching duties include advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of expertise and other courses in the curriculum appropriate to the candidate’s training and interests. - Thanks for posting this! I'm wondering if any prospective applicants are concerned about how one would teach some of the bawdy literature of the Restoration at an evangelical school. How would one teach Rochester? -- I'm not sure one would be allowed to teach Rochester.
