Jobs with 2021 Deadlines[]

Carnegie Mellon (USA: PA): Assistant Professor. Two (2) Assistant Professors (beginning or advanced) working at the intersections of race, gender and sexuality, and literature in the Long 18th Century (1660-1830). Deadline: 1 November 2021. TT. FT. Updates:

  • Any updates? (23 Nov.)
  • Nothing here either (23 Nov.)
  • Nothing here; I'm guessing with the double hire and as many candidates as they will get, it'll be after the holiday this week. Or I just didn't get an interview :) (24 Nov.)
  • Still no news––would love to know if anyone's gotten any word! (Dec. 3)
  • Updates (Dec 8)?
  • Zoom interview request (Dec 15) x 3
  • Official rejection; "will be not be pursuing your candidacy further" "140 competitive applications"
  • "Campus visit" (remote over Zoom) scheduled (Jan 19)
  • Any updates from the campus visits?
  • yes updates from visits?
  • Rejected after interview. Job offers made, 2/17.

Colgate University (USA: NY): Assistant Professor. Specialty in British literature from Milton through the Romantics. Deadline: 1 November 2021. TT. FT. Updates: Contacted for interview 11/22 x 3. Campus visit scheduled 12/16 x2

Same job description as the VAP last year - likely an internal hire. [Actually, this is incorrect. Last year's VAP ad was for "early modern poetry." However, it did include teaching "an introductory-level course in British poetry and an intermediate course in Milton." Some overlapping material, but a different job. Could be internal, but I'd say far from likely.] -- I'm skeptical that this is a different position from last year's VAP - the interview prompt (?- the questions sent out after the invitation to interview) for last year asked spefically about experience as as a student and teacher of British poetry written before 1800. Has anyone else received an invitation to interview? | Have any interviewed candidates received an invitation to a campus visit yet? (I was told in the interview that it would "be a while" before they were in touch again x 3) [No clue, but I'd guess campus visit invites will be sent late Dec, early Jan.]

^Btw, goodluck to all those involved. Another crushing year on the job market--hope everyone is managing to stay afloat and maintain solidarity. [Thanks! The relative quiet in these places is sign enough that things are terrible..]

Campus visit scheduled 12/16 x2

Rejection from Chair via admin 2/25

^^Update: they hired the VAP from the previous year.
