  • Please be aware of what's going on at this institution if you're considering applying; I'm torn about even adding this but it's an opportunity to make sure people understand the context. This college is currently being gutted as part of a larger attack on higher education.

Word on the Street[]

Has anyone heard anything on any of the above?

11/21: Applied to all except New College and haven’t heard from any. UVU and UNC are still open, but it’s so weird that none of the UCSD cluster hires have shown up here yet.

12/4: UVU invitation to interview (Microsoft Teams) x2

  • They sent out invites within one business day of the application being due? I wonder if their interviews are rolling. Or, was there an esoteric due date?
  • I've had a couple interview requests within a day or two after the deadline this year. Since the market has moved away from everyone interviewing at MLA, it's an advantage for anyone but the very best universities to interview ASAP and try to lock in candidates. The longer they wait, the more likely they will have to compete with other institutions.
  • any update on interview process at UVU?
  • 12/14 I interviewed with UVU and they said it would be "several weeks" before campus talk invitations go out. I got the impression that meant after the holidays.
  • 1/03 Informed that I did not make it to the next round - congrats to folks who got a campus visit for UVU!

12/4: Minnesota interview request (via email) [taken from the Renaissance/Early Modern page]

12/4: UCSD Zoom interview request (via email)

  • 12/6: UCSD Zoom interview request (via email) - maybe they're staggering these?
  • 12/27: Any updates from UCSD after Zoom interviews?
  • 12/28: I interviewed with UCSD and haven't heard anything. I imagine they're going to move slowly here like they did with the first-round interviews since it's part of a cluster hire. Update: I did just check the medieval page and it looks like campus interview invites for that part of the hire went out on the 22nd. No idea what that might mean for the 18th-century position!
  • 1/18: Any updates here about campus visits? I still haven't heard anything. (Same here, 1/19 no news)
  • 02/04: Checking in one more time for updates. At this point, I'm going to have to assume they just moved forward with campus invites. (02/05: No news here either, so I'm guessing so too.)
  • 04/24: Rejected - no surprises there, but congratulations to the lucky new assistant prof!

12/27 : Wilmington interview requests out on the early modern page.

1/11: New College of Florida Zoom interview request.

  • 02/14: New College of Florida campus visit invitation.
