- I called and asked about it. This sort of statement is more typical of job posts in the sciences, which makes sense given CM's reputation. They said curricular interests are the courses one has taught/is prepared to teach/want to teach. I was told I could include this info in my teaching statement and then upload a blank document for the "curricular interests" part.

The candidate may be asked to assume the administrative position of Departmental Language Coordinator. University of Pittsburgh--UCIS Postdoctoral Fellows in Russian & East European Studies --Deadline: 31 December 2015
The University of Pittsburgh is offering two postdoctoral fellowships—one in the arts and humanities, and one in the social sciences and professional disciplines—to begin in September 2016 for scholars whose work focuses on Russia, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet regions of Eurasia. These fellowships are designed to offer junior scholars the time, space, and financial support necessary to produce significant scholarship early in their careers while simultaneously building their teaching records.
The UCIS Postdoctoral Fellowships in Russian & East European Studies are for two years, renewable for an additional (third) year. Fellows will be expected to pursue their own scholarly work and participate in the academic and intellectual activities of UCIS and REES, as well as the department or professional school with which they are affiliated.
Each of the UCIS/REES Fellows will teach one course in the first year, two in the second year, and two in the third year if the fellowship is extended. The specific courses to be taught will be determined according to fellows’ interests and the needs of their departments and REES. However, it is anticipated that each fellow will co-teach the interdisciplinary REES capstone course, through which undergraduate students undertake a major research project as part of the REES certificate program requirements, at least once during the fellowship period. Fellows will also be expected to support the Center’s annual graduate and undergraduate student conferences and other Center outreach activities.
The annual stipend will be $40,000, plus benefits. The UCIS/REES Fellows are eligible to apply for REES Faculty Small Grants, up to $3,000 annually, to support their research agenda.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the implementation of an innovative, research-based curriculum; the development of a coherently articulated program of instruction across levels of competency; the design, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the syllabus and daily lessons; assisting with the development and administration of assessment instruments; and participation in professional development programs.
Salary will range from $7,000-9,000 per course and will be commensurate with the applicant's demonstrated ability to develop research-based, innovative second language curricula. The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Kansas seeks to fill part-time Lecturer positions in Czech language and Russian literature, expected to begin as early as August 18, 2016.
The Czech lecturer position will involve teaching one course per semester in Elementary or Intermediate Czech. Seeking a dynamic instructor with excellent teaching skills and familiarity with the North American education system. The successful candidate must have a native or near-native command of Czech and English and an intimate knowledge of Czech culture.
The Russian literature lecturer position will involve teaching introductory survey courses in Russian literature and culture to undergraduates.
Topics are open, and there may be an opportunity to teach seminars to advanced undergraduates and graduate students as well.

University of Wisconsin - Madison (WI) - Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian, Fall 2016
The Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic at the University of Wisconsin - Madison announces a one-semester position for a Visiting Assistant Professor for Fall 2016 to teach two courses: one advanced course in Russian language and literature (taught entirely in Russian to students beyond fourth-year Russian) and one course on Soviet literature in translation, with an optional discussion section in Russian. Active research agenda and readiness to perform service on departmental committees is expected. The successful candidate would need to be on campus by Monday, 29 August 2016, and classes begin on Tuesday, 6 September 2016.
Ph.D. in hand strongly preferred; however, ABD applicants will be considered, in which case the title would be Lecturer. - Does Columbia really want a 40-pp research statement? Do they mean 4 pp?
- I interpreted that to be a research article/diss chapter of less than 40 pages. I was thinking of sending an article with my 1-2 page reserach statement attached.
- Or perhaps the whole application packet (cover letter, CV, writing sample, etc) should be no more than 40 pages?

Wouldn't it have been nice to get a PhD in a field that has something remotely resembling a job market? We wait another year for eight jobs to be posted. This is a special form of madness.
- I want to say that this year is worse than others, but I don't think it is. The market is terrible every year, all of the time. Even if one does land a tenure-track job, it's no guarantee. Tenure decisions are becoming increasingly arbitrary (or at least that's the way it looks from my corner...)
- No one ever knows whether something is an internal hire or not. I've seen people "assured" of a job lose them and others retain them. It's never an easy decision.
Seems like an unusually small sample of candiates is participating in the Wiki this year. Judging from postings, one would conclude that committees are only interviewing one person per job.
There is a whole new generation of PhDs who are very active on social media and achieve much through social networking there; this wiki, as a result, is not as informative as it used to be, nor does it satisfy the same needs. If hiring committee members have been friends on Facebook with potential candidates for years (as has been the case in a few recent hires), much of the mystery about the process is disspelled on both sides. UPenn has certainly interviewed more people--just not the ones reading this wiki. I suggest you friend pronto any faculty members that you might think might be hiring...
- Of course more people have been interviewed. I saw more than one when I did. Not everyone uses this wiki to judge the number of people interviewed or accepted or whatever, but rather to know that SOMEONE has gotten information about a job. When so many positions don't let us know until much after a position is effectively closed, it's enough to know that one person has an interview to know that some of us don't.
- And your point is? Fewer people are updating the wiki this year,as I observed above, precisely because more information is available. And yet, you have almost desperate questions here like the one above ("Have more people been interviewed by UPenn?" --Yes, of course, more people have been interviewed but this person is expecting confirmation from the wiki!!! Also, I am not sure what positions that have been effectively closed have not been announced as closed to you (and other candidates)?
