Description[]
SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowships are expected to respond to the objectives of the Talent program.
These fellowships support the most promising Canadian new scholars in the social sciences and humanities, and assist them in establishing a research base at an important time in their research careers.
They provide stipendiary support to recent PhD graduates who are:
- undertaking original research;
- publishing research findings;
- developing and expanding personal research networks;
- broadening their teaching experience;
- preparing for research-intensive careers within and beyond academia; and
- preparing to become competitive in national research grant competitions.
Fellowships will normally be awarded to candidates affiliated with a university other than the one that awarded the PhD. SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship awards are tenable at Canadian or foreign universities and research institutions.
SSHRC welcomes applications involving Indigenous research, as well as those involving research-creation.
Value: $45,000 per year
Duration: 1 or 2 years
Application deadline: September 16, 2020
Results announced: February 2021

FORMAT: Date. Award (eg., SSHRC, Banting). Score. Discipline. Selection Committee (eg., 3/7563, 6/7566). Location: (eg., Canada, US). Status: (eg., ABD, 1yr, 2yr). Qualifications: (eg., pubs, presentations).
Feb 10. Awarded a Banting. 21/198 (Overall average: 7.97). Psychology. Committee 4. PhD at University of Waterloo (2020). Postdoc at University College London. Status: 1yr. Qualifications: 7 publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals (1 in press), 6 chapters, 1 paper under review; Governor General's Gold Medal (2020) for highest standing in a doctoral program, Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral (declined) and Masters, multiple additional awards, travel grants, etc.; 26 conference presentations (15 talks, 11 posters); taught 6 undergraduate courses, delivered multiple graduate and undergraduate guest lectures; several non-academic publications (e.g., teacher's guide to bullying awareness); reviewer for multiple journals, volunteered on graduate student committee for largest organization in social psychology. Full disclosure, I applied with the following special circumstances: my younger brother was killed in a plane crash the summer before the final year of my PhD. I had to take 4 months' leave from school, which led to major project interruptions. I was demoted from first to second and last author on two papers, my research was put on hold, etc. It's also why I applied to Banting as a 1yr PhD instead of ABD, because my brother died right before postdoc application season in 2019, so I missed all the applications for 2020-2021.
Feb. 26. SSHRC Postdoc Fellowship. Score: 19/115 (Overall: 4.93/6). English. Selection Committee: 1. University of Pittsburgh. Status: PhD 2019 (UofT).
