Arizona State University, Barrett Honors College  - Lecturer (Renewable) []

  • The Barrett Honors College of Arizona State University is expanding its faculty and invites applications for a position in the core Honors faculty. The faculty members of Barrett are non-tenure track Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Principal Lecturers; most are on three-year renewable and rolling appointments. The main teaching responsibility rests on a two-semester interdisciplinary seminar course, The Human Eventin which students examine important ideas from earliest writings to the present. Special attention is given to critical thinking and argumentative writing skills. In addition, faculty members teach upper-division seminars, and mentor honors students throughout their four years in independent studies, individual conferences, theses, and other forms of scholarly achievement.
  • Barrett attracts many of the top students in the country and provides them with an enriched academic experience that challenges them and enables them to become better citizens. The typical Barrett freshman is in the top five percent of his or her high school class, has SAT scores of 1320 or above, and has a high school grade-point average of 3.81.
  • We seek to fill a full-time, multi-year faculty position whose primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year Human Event seminar. Successful applicants will demonstrate experience in and openness to teaching primary sources through multiple theoretical/disciplinary/methodological approaches, across different cultures and historical eras. The position begins August 2014; the nine-month salary will be based on education and experience.
  • Qualifications: A PhD in any field of the humanities, natural or social sciences that complements the academic focus of the existing faculty members. Candidates whose work integrates views from multiple areas of the natural sciences, the social sciences, and/or the humanities are encouraged to apply. Experience in teaching argumentative writing skills is required, and experience leading seminar-based discussions is highly desired.

The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a faculty position (tenure-track) related to Economic Disparities, with a start date of July 1, 2014. A Ph.D. or equivalent is required by the start date. We are especially interested in scholars who investigate economic disparities, with a focus on spatial dimensions of economic disparities, geographies of inequity, African American communities or the African diaspora, or other underrepresented minority communities, either domestically or internationally. The successful candidate will have a program of research that bears on pressing social problems, including but not limited to the urban landscape, health disparities, labor markets, inequality, housing markets, immigration, global labor flows, gendering and marginality, or environmental inequities. The successful candidate will participate in the university’s multidisciplinary and collaborative initiative to understand and alleviate economic disparities, the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society. We are especially interested in scholars who would join the Department of Geography and/or the Department of African American Studies, depending on interest and expertise. Quest University Canada (BC, CAN) - Social Science General (Nov. 29)[]

Quest University Canada seeks applicants for a full-time, continuing faculty position and we will consider candidates from any social science discipline or any interdisciplinary program where the focus is on the social sciences. The successful candidate will teach concentration courses in their area of specialty, and social science courses in our Foundation Program. All Quest faculty are expected to be able to teach the Cornerstone and Question courses, and candidates who demonstrate the willingness and experience to teach Rhetoric will be given special consideration. We encourage talented instructors with interests beyond our current offerings to apply, but the search will not be limited to this area. In particular, we invite applicants who complement the expertise of our faculty. Areas that are already represented in our social science faculty include: political philosophy, international relations, psychology (comparative, cognitive, cultural, developmental, and, political), sociology, race and ethnicity, resource management and environmental studies, public health and economics (behaviour, micro/macro, international, and environmental development). Please examine the profiles of current faculty and indicate how your expertise complements the expertise of our faculty. A PhD (or equivalent) and undergraduate-level teaching experience is required. Although research, especially that involving undergraduates, is encouraged, those seeking a research-focused faculty position should not apply.
