The MATESL program is the oldest existing MATESL program in the US and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2015. ESL has been taught at Illinois since 1947. Illinois is a leader in international student education and has the largest international student population of any public university in the nation, with over 9,800 international students representing 115 countries (14% of the student body). The Department of Linguistics serves the needs of our international NNS by offering approximately 60 sections of ESL per semester, including pronunciation, 7 levels of ESL writing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and courses for our International Teaching Assistant population.

The Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education prepares pre-service and graduate elementary, middle grades, and secondary teachers. Programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels are offered in the Department. Many opportunities are available to become involved in some or all of these programs. Responsibilities for the TESOL Position:
Teach in a variety of settings including Face-to-Face, Web-Based, and Distance Programs.
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses with a focus on TESOL methods, advise graduate students, and direct or co-direct Doctoral students.
Meet expectations for scholarship and grant writing for a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution.
Contribute to the overall teaching, research, and service missions of the School of Education.

Qualifications: Desired Qualifications for the TESOL Position:
Earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, Teaching English as a Second Language or related fields.
Commitment to teacher education and development in collaborative and collegial community partnerships.
Successful experience as a K-12 bilingual teacher, ESL teacher, or classroom teacher serving English learners.
Experience teaching and supervising university students.
Demonstrated scholarship (e.g. presentations and publications) in TESOL education.
Background in elementary education and/or content area instruction such as Social Studies, Literacy, Math or Science is also desired.

The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for one tenure-stream appointment in the field of Teaching and Learning / Second Language Education at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2013. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in a related field by July 1, 2013 with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research. Applicants are expected to have expertise in teaching French as a second language, a strong research focus and well-defined research program in the area. Knowledge of any other language taught in the Department would be an asset.
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Language Studies, engage in the extensive co-curricular and experiential learning activities in French offered in the Department and work with academic colleagues to further the department's strengths and profile as a leader in language teaching and learning. S/he will undertake graduate teaching and supervision, either as a member of the Graduate Department of French at the St. George campus, or the Graduate Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
