The Department of Theater and Dance at Amherst College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in theatrical design at the rank of assistant professor to begin on July 1, 2023. Candidates for this position should have a primary expertise in scenic design and additional expertise in at least one other design area, such as costume design or lighting design. Experience designing for a wide range of performance types and situations is desirable, including plays and dance, and/or multi-media, installation, and site-specific work. We are particularly interested in designers who are also pursuing a particular research interest in addition to a professional design portfolio. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, including an introductory course in design principles, as well as intermediate and advanced courses in specific design areas. In addition, close advising of senior honors projects is expected, as well as projects of other advanced-level students in coordination with our production program. The successful candidate will help to shape a liberal-arts oriented theater and dance curriculum in a department that emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Candidates must have a terminal degree (either an M.F.A. or a Ph.D.) in hand, or all requirements for the degree fulfilled by the start of the appointment. Professional experience as a designer is also required, as well as the ability to continue professional-level work in the field. Applicants are asked to submit electronically to the following: a cover letter; curriculum vitae; statement of teaching philosophy, including philosophy of teaching a diverse student body; a detailed description of creative and research plans, including a sample portfolio of design work; as wells three confidential letters of recommendation. Bates College (Maine, USA): Open Rank, Assistant/Associate/Professor of Theater and Performance Studies[]

We seek a scholar-artist with primary expertise in Theater and Performance Studies who specializes in traditionally underrepresented areas of performance, especially histories, literatures, and performance/practices of the global-majority, including Latinx/e, Asian/Asian American, Indigenous, and African Diasporic peoples. Candidates with additional expertise in queer theory, feminisms, intersectionality, gender/sexuality studies, and/or inclusive modes of devising performance will be especially welcome. A robust research agenda, with evidence of publication, conference presentations, and/or other scholarship, is an expectation. The position will be housed in the Theater Program, which is partnered with the Program in Dance. The successful candidate will teach foundational courses in performance theory, theater history, dramaturgy, and dramatic literature, as well as upper-division courses in their areas of specialization. We are interested in a candidate able to teach courses that enliven and expand our Theater Studies track and our current curriculum, with a focus on intersectional categories of analysis, racial equity, social justice, and community-engaged learning, and we are looking for someone who is passionate about fostering critical dialogue and making vital links to other disciplines. The Department of Theatre Arts seeks candidates with research and teaching strengths in dramatic literature, dramatic theory, and/or dramaturgy to teach in our undergraduate (BA Theatre; BFA Performance, Design/Tech) and graduate (MA Theatre, MFA Directing) programs and to contribute to our close-knit artistic and academic community. A research specialization that broadens our faculty expertise is especially desirable, for example in applied theatre, Latinx drama, theatre of the Black diaspora, or pre-modern dramatic literature. The Theater Department of Lafayette College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theater. This department member will teach introductory and advanced courses in Theater History, Performance and Literature, and courses that fulfill the requirements of the College’s Common Course of Study. Candidates should have a strong public record of scholarly work in theater and/or should be experienced theater directors. Assistant Professor Faculty Fellow - Theatre Studies. NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Drama solicits applications for an Assistant Professor Faculty Fellow commencing academic year 2023-24. This is a three-year postdoctoral position, contingent upon review after the first year. The Department of Drama has an expansive curriculum that combines the rigorous study of theatre history, dramatic literature, and performance theory with professional training in acting, musical theatre, design, management, devising, directing and playwriting and includes an Honors track as well as a minor in Applied Theatre. Employment responsibilities include teaching a writing-intensive Introduction to Theatre Studies course and three additional undergraduate courses each year, as well as committee service. The successful candidate will teach Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced Playwriting, Forms of Drama, and Theatre 101 serve as a faculty advisor for capstones and honors projects in Playwriting, and may, on occasion, teach introductory courses in English. Depending on qualifications and interests, candidates may also teach advanced courses in English or Theatre. Candidates should be working playwrights, with potential for significant artistic production. Experience with screenwriting is also desirable. This position will be helping build the theater/dance/performance studies division of our new Performing Arts major, which includes tracks in music, theater/dance/performance studies, and a hybrid option that includes all those disciplines.Teaching responsibilities will include courses in stage movement and/or dance, history, theory and practice of theater/dance/performance, topics courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, and directing one theater production on the main stage season per academic year. Applicants must have an MFA or PhD in Theater/Dance/Performance Studies, or a related field and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching.  Applicants with expertise in movement for the stage, anti-racist theater practice, theater, dance, and performance by artists from historically marginalized groups (for example, Global Majority/Black, Indigenous, and People of Color artists, people of marginalized genders, LGBTQIA+ people and people with disabilities), musical theater, and/or the development of new work for the stage are especially encouraged to apply.  An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable.

Duties include designing scenery and/or projections for mainstage shows over the course of the academic year. supervise paint studio; teach two undergraduate classes (6 contact hours). Courses could include Scenic Design, Principles of Design, Experiential Design, Scene Painting, and other courses in the candidate's area of interest, mentor undergraduate student workers during daily shop hours, and mentor student designers in our Student Performance Laboratory Productions. Experience with traditional design techniques for plays, musicals, and devised work, or other areas of specialization, including history and theory of design, performance design, site-specific performance, multi-media and/or installation design. University at Buffalo—State University of New York (Buffalo, NY, USA)[]

Department of Theatre & Dance - Clinical Assistant Professor of Music Theatre and Performance Studies. The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York (UB), invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor with a specialization in Music Theatre. This position will have a 3/3 teaching load and service to the Music Theatre program. Each semester this position will serve as Music Director, and as a collaborative pianist for the musical, MTR 405. This includes providing accompaniment for rehearsals and casting auditions, helping to identify pit orchestra members, managing the budget for orchestra, and working collaboratively with director, designers, and student-cast. This is a full-time (10 month) non-tenure-track faculty position with an emphasis on teaching, undergraduate recruitment, and artistic service.
