- Anyone hear anything from this search as of the new year?
- I haven't heard anything about this as of 2/3/2014, and I'm a little surprised it has taken so long. Has anyone else heard anything?
- The review date fell just before the holidays and Emerson has a January intersession - Spring classes didn't start until the middle of January. So, between the winter recess and the crazy January weather, it seems reasonable to think that perhaps they are still reviewing applications ...
- Any updates here? (3.5.14)
- Nope, still haven't heard anything. (3/10/2014)
- They're doing on-campus interviews this week (3/16/2014)
- Wow. That's helpful to know since I just saw this job ad (still with its Dec. 2 deadline) pop up today on Facebook. Not sure whether someone didn't look at the deadline date but the appearance made me think the search was being reopened.

- Invitation for a Skype interview x2 10/14/13
- Any news?
- Be patient. It has barely been a month. While I will admit some of the searches this cycle have moved unusually quickly, committees often haven't even met until 30 days after the closing deadline.
- ^ Very good advice, thanks!
- Have campus interviews been scheduled? The committee mentioned wanting to come to a decision by mid-December.
- Since the committee indicated during the skype interview last month that they were planning to move quickly and come to a decision by mid-December, one would assume that finalists for on-campus interviews have been identified by now. For those of us who participated in the skype interview but have not yet heard anything further, I'm guessing that we just didn't make the cut for the on-campus interviews, and we won't hear anything further until the position is filled. I could be wrong - I'm just going off of what I've experienced in the past.
- I was thinking the exact same thing.
- Anyone know if a hire was made here?
- Has anyone heard anything? I was on the long shortlist and am a bit annoyed that we've had no "thanks but no thanks" message after 4 months.
- I hear you - but we could give Macalester the benefit of the doubt. It is possible that they made an offer and negotiations have been prolonged. Especially with a (potentially) senior-level hire, lengthy negotiations are not uncommon. They could even be making their way down their short-short list, with lengthy negotiations each time. They don't want to tell us "definitely not" until someone has signed a contract. Best bet for most peace of mind at this point - just email the chair of the search committee and ask politely if she would kindly share an update on where they're at with their search. If you find out anything, let us know. :)
- I hear that the initial offer was declined a few weeks ago (not by me). I do not know where they stand now. (3/7)
- FWIW, I emailed the chair (I'm "a bit annoyed" above) on Monday 3/17 but haven't heard anything.

- contacted for phone interview during the week of April 14 (04/11/14)
- Really? I had gotten an email back in January about this one, saying "After careful review and consideration of the position, this position has been cancelled and may be restructured to better meet the needs of the department." Meant to mark it on the wiki, but I was traveling at the time and just saw it on my phone and then forgot. Did they restart the search?
- Yeah, it was re-posted almost immediately after the original was canceled. I briefly spoke to search chair about it, and he said that it was merely an issue in the advertisement's wording that needed to be fixed. It appears to be moving along now, though. Sorry to those who missed the re-post.
- On Campus Interviews through mid-May.

Princeton University - Princeton Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts[]
Princeton University invites applications for the Princeton Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts. Princeton Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts, funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will be awarded to artists whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of artistic practice and teaching. Applicants should be early career poets, novelists, choreographers, playwrights, designers, performers, directors, and performance artists -- this list is not meant to be exhaustive -- who would find it beneficial to spend two years working in an artistically vibrant university community.
Because our inaugural fellows are in the fields of Music and Visual Arts, this year we will only be accepting applications for Theater, Creative Writing, and Dance.
Fellowships are for two 10-month academic years. Fellows will be in residence for academic years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 at Princeton, interacting with our students, faculty and staff as part of the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Department of Music. The normal work assignment will be to teach one course each semester subject to approval by the Dean of the Faculty, but fellows may be asked to take on an artistic assignment in lieu of a class, such as directing a play or creating a dance with students. Although the teaching load is light, our expectation is that Fellows will be full and active members of our community, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students during the academic year. While Fellows need not reside in Princeton, they will be required to spend a significant part of the week on campus. This Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any other advanced degree. Holders of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton are not eligible to apply.
Applicants must apply online at http://jobs.princeton.edu, Rquisition #1300450 by October 1, 2013, EST. All applicants must submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of 500-750 words about how you would hope to use the two years of the fellowship at this moment in your career, and contact information for three references. Please indicate in your cover letter what program you wish your application to be reviewed by: Theater, Creative Writing, or Dance. In addition, poets and novelists are requested to submit a 3,000 word writing sample of recent work; performers such as choreographers are requested to submit examples of ten minutes of performance through link(s) to sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Flicker, etc.). This information can be included in your cover letter. We cannot confirm receipt of applications nor can we accept applications postmarked after the deadline. Restrictions on the statement size (500-750 words) and sample size (3,000 words) are strict. As of this application deadline, applicants will only be allowed to apply for the Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship twice in a lifetime.
Appointments will be made at a professional specialist rank; in addition, successful candidates will be appointed as lecturers when they are doing formal teaching and/or advising.
Interviews of finalists will take place on campus the week of December 2-7, 2013.
Essential Qualifications: Selection will be based on artistic achievement; the potential for excellent teaching; and the likelihood of significant contributions to the artistic life of the Princeton community.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree preferred

Discussion[]
This seems to be a very late hiring season (compared to previous cycles). Does it strike you folks that way? I am still seeing new postings for faculty and admin gigs at the 4-year and graduate institutions. In years past I recall late spring being largely the community college and summer/seasonal hiring push.
(5/5/14) SDC, a benefit? I have run into so many issues with getting interviews. I am five years out of my MFA in Acting, and have taught High School full time, Directed at many professional theaters, acted too, and have been an Artistic Director of a historical summer stock for the past few years. That being said, universities are citing my lack of AEA as a greater deficiency than my minimal college teaching. I am able to join SDC, but is it worth it? Is marketing myself as Professional Director with an MFA in Acting a better angle? Help is appreciated.
- (5/8/14) Can't see how it would hurt (SDC). The market is so glutted that adding additional bling to your CV might well set you apart. That being said, it is an expensive buy-in for a very narrow-focus credential.
I just added a couple of schools/jobs, and may have messed up some formatting for others (idk where the bullet points came from). If someone who is better at this than me wants to clean it up, I wouldn't complain. Sorry.
Re: ArtSEARCH. Are there really no academic jobs listed yet there, or is something wrong with my search parameters. I usually just type in "theatre" and pull down the Education tab. Currenly the latest post is from early July.
- I would just do a simple search with no parameters and sort through the recent listings yourself. Sometimes teaching jobs are not accurately categorized by ArtSearch in the Education section. Also, keep in mind we are in that transitional period where there are fewer current listings because hiring is (hopefully) done for the 2013-14 academic year and tenure-track listings for 2014-15 will become more frequent as faculty (and consequently, search committees) return to campus and begin their powwows.
ARTSEARCH seems to now have "Spotlight Listings" that appear first, which is what you might be looking at. If you scroll down further you should see the actual ARTSEARCH search results
- ArtSearch has changed their layout. There's a chunk of featured gigs at the top, then a gap, then the rest. Just scroll down. Confused me for a bit too. (8/3)
- Original poster here--thank you! Glad to see there are more listed than I thought. Misleading spotlight layout, I think.
Would someone more skilled than I am be willing to post the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and University of New Mexico jobs? The deadlines have passed, but it'd be nice to track the results.
I really wish more designers were using this!!
Has anyone else noticed that schools are taking much longer to make decisions this year, and that they are not doing a very good job of notifying candidates about hiring decisions in a timely manner?
- I was thinking the same thing, but the interviews I had last year were in April and May. Hopefully that means there is still time...
