The Department of Performance Design and Technology in the Division of Performing Arts at Alfred University is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Scenography. Appointment begins in August, 2019.
The Department of Performance Design and Technology is actively creating a major program and this position will be responsible for collaboratively developing this innovative program with other faculty members in the arts.
The teaching responsibilities of 12 credits per semester include Principles in Design, advanced courses in areas of design and stage management, and designing for divisional productions. The successful candidate will also engage in divisional, university-wide and community service, in advising students, and in other administrative duties expected from faculty.

An MFA (preferred) or MA in an area of design for theater or their equivalent is required, with a dedicated commitment to excellence in teaching with record of active performance practice.
Candidates should have excellent collaboration and teaching skills and have expertise in at least two areas of design - lighting, scenic, and/or costumes.

The Department of Theater and Dance at Baldwin Walla ce University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2019. This position presents an opportunity to join a vibrant faculty within a growing department that offers four disciplines of study: Acting & Directing, Dance, Technical Theater, and Stage Management, as well as a new B.F.A. in Acting. Applicants must have a minimum of a Master's of Fine Arts in Acting, three years teaching at the university or conservatory level, and a proven record of professional theater work. Brown University (RI) - TT Open Rank Position in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies: Playwriting SKYPE INTERVIEWS COMPLETED
The Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies at Brown seeks applications for an open rank (tenure track/tenured) position in playwriting. The successful applicant will envision and advance the future direction of Brown’s nationally renowned playwriting programs, which consist of a top-ranking MFA program and a robust undergraduate curriculum in writing for performance. Responsibilities will include curriculum development, teaching graduate and undergraduate playwriting courses, helping to produce the annual graduate playwriting festival, and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students in curricular and co-curricular activities germane to their professional, intellectual, and creative development. This position will also entail opportunities to contribute to the Department’s annual production season, such as directing or having their work produced in the departmental season. We welcome candidates whose work engages a diverse range of aesthetic traditions, styles, and forms of writing for performance. Experience creating and/or producing new work, as well as teaching playwriting or related genres of writing for performance at the university level, is also desirable. Position: The primary professional responsibilities of this instructional faculty member are: teaching combination of undergraduate and graduate courses in Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Theory, Criticism, and Research Methodologies, along with other courses in the major, as needed. These responsibilities generally include: advising students; engaging in an active and successful program of scholarly research and publication in the discipline; participation in Department, College, University, and system-wide committees; maintaining office hours; working collaboratively and productively with colleagues; participation in traditional academic functions; and contribution to the regional and national organizations of university theatre educators.
Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching; a record of scholarly research and publications in the discipline; strong leadership contributions to Department and University committees and to external professional organizations that serve the broader disciplinary community.
Qualifications: Required: A Ph.D. degree in Theatre History and Dramatic Literature. ABD’s may apply but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the time of appointment. 3 years of university-level teaching experience in courses specifically relevant to the position. Evidence of an active and productive agenda of scholarly research and publication. Evidence of excellent writing skills, a strong commitment to intellectual inquiry and currency in the specific teaching disciplines. A demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, faculty, and staff.

Indiana University Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance seeks a professional dramaturg with evidence of an emerging national profile in Dramaturgy for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. Duties: The Technical Instructor in Design contributes to the creative and educational mission of the section as a hands-on designer and teacher. The responsibilities of the Technical Instructor in Sound Design will be divided into three areas: as a creator and teacher of the Music and Theater Arts (MTA) sound design curriculum; as a sound designer for faculty led productions; and participating in the operation our new MTA facility, W97. In the course of an academic year, a Technical Instructor teaches 3 undergraduate courses and designs 2 faculty directed student productions. Additional responsibilities include mentoring independent student projects and supporting studio presentations and theater arts classes.

The position brings to the School of Theatre Arts and Dance an emphasis on literature, criticism, theory and history of theatre, World Theatre, and the ongoing convergence of Technology, Media, and Theatre.
The position includes a full-time faculty workload per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the California State University and the California Faculty Association. The workload primarily includes teaching or other agreed upon primary assignment; conducting an active ongoing program of scholarship or creative works that advances knowledge in the field of one’s specialty; and service contributions to the department, college and the university.
Teaching assignments: The primary assignment for this position is coordinating and teaching the undergraduate theatre history/literature sequence, with possible graduate teaching in the MA program.
The scholarship may address a range of topics in the areas of literature, criticism, theory and history of theatre, World Theatre, and the ongoing convergence of Technology, Media, and Theatre.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, productive participation on departmental, college, and university-wide committees; mentoring and advising undergraduate and/or graduate students; holding regular office hours; curriculum development and improvement, particularly with regard to student learning outcomes; and remaining current in both subject area and teaching methodologies.

A Teaching University: The standard teaching load for tenured/tenure-track faculty is usually 3 (three) courses per semester. Teaching excellence, an ongoing program of scholarship, professional development, and service to the department, the University and the profession are necessary for advancement.
Variety of Courses: Because this is a small program, theater faculty are expected to be able to teach a variety of undergraduate theater courses, both lower and upper division. In addition to Theater History and Dramaturgy, the program would like candidates who can also teach in one or more of the following areas: Playwriting, Social Justice Theater, Community-based Performance. The specific courses will depend on interest, background, and program need.
Intro to Fine Arts: All faculty in the Department of Performing and Fine Arts teach the core course called Introduction to Fine Arts. The subject matter includes classical music, theatre, film, visual arts (paintings and sculpture), architecture and possibly dance. Most of the sections are independent, but there are two sections that are team-taught. In this case, two faculty bring the students together for joint lectures by one of the instructors. This allows all students to learn from theatre, music and visual arts specialists, even though there are two sections and the groups meet separately much of the time. New faculty are assigned to these groups so they can learn how the course works and develop their knowledge of areas outside of their academic expertise.
The Department of Performing and Fine Arts: The department has majors in Theater and Music as well as a minor in Fine Arts. There are five full-time theater faculty, two full-time theater staff positions, six full-time music faculty, and one faculty member in fine arts. There are also adjunct faculty who teach specialized courses. In addition to teaching and scholarship, tenure-track faculty members also share in Theater Program administrative duties, advise students, and serve the department, University, and profession in various capacities.
Theater Degrees Offered: The University of Portland offers a B.A. in Theater with three tracks: performance, design/technology, and production management. There are currently 35 theater majors and 15 theater minors. The institution is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
Theater Production Program: The Theater Program produces 4-8 productions a year. Four mainstage productions, 2 per semester, are mounted in the Mago Hunt Theater. Two to four laboratory productions per year, generally student-directed, are mounted in either the Mago Hunt Theater or the black-box Blair Studio Theater.
Arts in Portland: Portland boasts a vibrant arts community that includes service organizations such as Literary Arts and the Regional Arts & Culture Center, as well as producers such as Portland Center Stage, Artists Repertory Theatre, Oregon Ballet Theatre and Oregon Symphony Orchestra, among many others, in addition to lively gallery and club scenes. Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields; the Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the "studious leisure" to undertake significant new work.
Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton, but no formal teaching is involved. An $82,000 stipend is provided for this 10-month appointment as a Visiting Fellow. Fellowships are not intended to fund work leading to an advanced degree. One need not be a U.S. citizen to apply.

Princeton Arts Fellows, funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will be awarded to artists whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of artistic practice and teaching.
We will be accepting applications in Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts.
Applicants should be early career composers, conductors, musicians, choreographers, visual artists, film makers, poets, novelists, playwrights, designers, directors and performance artists -- this list is not meant to be exhaustive -- who would find it beneficial to spend two years working in an artistically vibrant university community.
Fellowships are for two 10-month academic years. An $82,000 salary for each year is included. Fellows will be in residence for academic years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 at Princeton, interacting with our students, faculty and staff as part of the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Department of Music. The normal work assignment will be to teach one course each semester subject to approval by the Dean of the Faculty, but Fellows may be asked to take on an artistic assignment in lieu of a class, such as directing a play or creating a dance with students. Although the teaching load is light, our expectation is that Fellows will be full and active members of our community, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students during the academic year.
Princeton Arts Fellows may not hold concurrent teaching positions at other institutions for the duration of the fellowship.
Interviews of finalists will take place on campus during January 7-8, 2019. All finalists are expected to attend the on-campus interview.
While Fellows need not reside in Princeton, they will be required to spend a significant part of the week on campus.
This Fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any other advanced degree. Holders of Ph.D. degrees from Princeton are not eligible to apply.

The University of Washington School of Drama is seeking applications for a three-year, 67% part-time lecturer position, beginning September 16, 2019. Lecturers have an annual service period of nine months (Sept 16-June 15). This is a non-tenure eligible position.
We are looking for a flexible, collaborative, and experienced individual to teach lighting design. Courses taught would include: introductory and advanced lighting design for undergraduate (BA) students, lighting design courses at all levels for graduate (MFA) students, a weekly graduate seminar, and graduate design studio (a multidisciplinary, team-taught course.) The ability to teach in related areas such as drafting, digital rendering, projections, or sound is desirable, but not required.
This position is also expected to be actively involved in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students involved in designing School of Drama productions, the recruitment of prospective students, and in professional networking that leads to productive internships for students.
This person will join the faculty of the UW's highly-ranked programs and teach in the BA program and the MFA professional training program in Design. Participation in academic administrative work, including curricular development and committees, is expected as well as other forms of service and duties typical of a lecturer faculty position. As an UW faculty member, the candidate will continue to practice his/her professional career in ways that accord with the School's scheduling and leave policies.
