    • Review begins 8 Dec. 2014 and continues until the positions are filled
    • I sent my application in and wrote on 3 separate occassions requesting confirmation. I have received no response. Could anyone who receives a confirmation of receipt please note it here?
    • I asked for a confirmation and it took a long time. Received it Dec 19.
      • The Global Studies Institute for which the positions were advertised is a new initiative by GSU. They were seeking to hire a new Director in early 2014. I have not come across a website for this Institute. It is probable that they are using existing staff members to do double duty and process the applications. This might explain the lack of any confirmation emails.
      • For what it's worth - I received a confirmation email when I applied (I believe it was around the 1st of December). In addition, whether or not they've already invited candidates, the search has apparently been an internal nightmare. The director who agreed to get the institute off-the-ground bailed at the last minute, so GSU has been doing a big "reshuffle," and from what I've heard, the search has been delayed because of this
    • Has anyone received any communication for this position? [01/07]
    • No email or communication so far (x5) (1/17)
      • This job is cross-listed in Cultural Anthropology and according to that page the initial pool of candidates was formed on 1/23
      • For what it's worth - I received a confirmation email when I applied (I believe it was around the 1st of December). In addition, whether or not they've already invited candidates, the search has apparently been an internal nightmare. The director who agreed to get the institute off-the-ground bailed at the last minute, so GSU has been doing a big "reshuffle," and from what I've heard, the search has been delayed because of this (2/6)
    • E-mail received requesting interview availability. (x2)
    • To the above poster - when did you receive an email requesting an interview? <--- I pulled this information from the Cultural Anthropology wiki.  I'm not sure when the emails were sent, as no date is indicated.
      • I received an email about interview availability on March 16, but I've heard nothing since. I also heard, on good authority, that "open rank" is a joke. Allegedly, they want only associates and above. (I'm not, so the interview request shocked me. But then again, I've heard nothing since, so who knows...)

The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (CHE - Geneva) - International History[]

  • Assistant professorship in International History, to begin 1 Sept. 2015

In particular, questions pertaining to the evolution of development policy ideas and tools, but also broad transversal themes with strong interdisciplinary appeal: property rights, environment, health and food
  • Candidates are expected to have an excellent background in international history and be prone to interdisciplinary dialogue. Applicants should have a doctoral degree prior to the start of their contract.

HISTORY) or by post (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, P.O. Box 136, 1211 Geneva 21, Switzerland)
  • Deadline: 15 Feb. 2015
    • Note: This is a unique department in which all faculty work on transnational/international history.  Also, there are no undergraduate students, only graduates (as the name implies).
    • I had an on-campus interview at the Institute last year.  If they proceed this year like they did last year, they will skip first round interviews and go directly to on-campus interviews.  They will bring all the candidates to campus at once, but you will not see each other (unless in passing at the hotel or Institute).  You will meet with the director, give a job talk, meet with graduate students, and have dinner with a few faculty members.  Also, be aware that they take a LONG time to reimburse you for your flight.

    • What about the previous applications? Are you still going to consider them? or people have to re-apply?
      • Search insider here. We plan to make initial phone interview decisions this week (posting this on 3/10). If you applied to the fall 2014 ad, you should have received one of two messages in December, either (1) you are no longer being considered for the job (=rejection), or (2) you are still being considered and for that reason need not reapply. • Were all candidates interviewed Canadian?
    • No. But they were all Middle Eastern experts. Why bother soliciting applications from so many more scholars if they were just going to focus on one area. Waste of time for them and the applicants.
    • I can say with 100% certainty that none of the finalists were Middle Eastern specialists and that one finalist was Canadian and two non-Canadian; finalists were Africanists and South Asianists.
